Toodyay is Australia’s tidiest town for 2015
Wins in three other categories
Environment Minister Albert Jacob has congratulated Toodyay for claiming the title of Australia’s
tidiest town.
Mr Jacob said the win was an exceptional result and a credit to the local community. Toodyay also
won prizes in three other categories.
“It is great to see a Western Australian town leading the nation with a co-operative approach to
improving the local environment and achieving a more sustainable community,” he said.
“Toodyay is a great example of what can be achieved when volunteers in anti-litter, historical and
environmental groups work in partnership.
“The additional category wins for Toodyay have made them the standout competitor on the national
scene, despite the small size of the population.”
The judge described the community as ‘environmentally aware with friendly, enthusiastic and
dedicated residents who care for their unique cultural and natural heritage’.
The judge was also impressed by the town’s strong emphasis on healthy lifestyles with bike friendly
and other sustainable transport options, such as the train services to Perth, solar street lights, energy
saving devices and retrofits in buildings.
Toodyay’s category wins were in litter prevention; resource recovery and waste management; and
environmental protection and innovation.
