Dear Parents and Guardians:
FEBRUARY 2014
Administrators:
During the month of February the students have been making
their Course Selections for next year. The Grade 10’s and 11’s
will be completing this process on Feb. 28th and bringing home
their course selection sheets. Please review their course choices
for next year as we build the timetable based upon the
student’s choices. We have the Course Selection Guide on
our website. Should you have any questions, please don’t
hesitate to contact our counselors at 604-826-3651.
Mrs. S. Gibson
Principal
Mr. W. Chow
Vice-Principal
Supporting Grade 7, 8 & 9 students
Grade 12 students should currently be researching
opportunities available to them in the area of bursaries and
scholarships.
Scholarship information is available on our
website as well as the bulletin board in the main school office.
These bursaries can be a great help as graduates continue on to
their post-secondary pursuits.
Mr. Dan Thiessen, Middle School Counselor
Supporting Grade 7, 8 and 9 students
Also, the students were directed to pick up their report cards
for the second reporting period. If you have not seen your
child’s report card, please let us know. Any remaining report
cards were mailed out on February 27th.
With Semester Two now well underway, we are encouraging
students to achieve their best possible year end grade results
and have a successful year in all subject areas. We are making
every effort to help students in this quest, providing homework
clubs after school each week. Many teachers are making
themselves available to students at lunch hours or after school,
to give extra help in certain subject areas. A number of senior
students are acting as tutors, helping their younger counterparts
in all subjects. The help is there – so I hope students will take
advantage of it!
Everyone is encouraged to check out our website: hss.mpsd.ca
on a regular basis so that you do not miss any of the great
events happening in and around the school!
Sincerely,
Shirley Gibson

Aboriginal Corner – February 2014
Wow another month has passed us by already! This
year is just flying by!
This month we would like to showcase one of our
grade 9 students and her artistic abilities. The
attached painting of a Raven with the Sun was painted
by Bonita Williams while she was in grade 8. She was
inspired by her father’s animal which is a Raven, so
painted it for his Father’s Day gift.
