POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: Program Associate (Temp), Center for Designed Philanthropy,
Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles
Employment Type: Temporary, Full Time
Anticipated Start Date: August 30, 2015
Anticipated End Date: January 30, 2016
About The Foundation
For 60 years, The Foundation has helped individuals and institutions have the greatest possible impact on
both the Jewish community and the community at large. We are the largest manager of charitable assets
for Greater Los Angeles Jewish philanthropists, with over $1 billion in assets under management. Our
Center for Designed Philanthropy manages our institutional grantmaking programs and assists our donors
with their own grantmaking.
Primary Responsibilities
To provide programmatic support to institutional and client grantmaking portfolios, under the supervision
of the Center Director in collaboration with the Center Program Officers and the Center Coordinator,
including:
 Interface with nonprofits on behalf of clients throughout the application process
 Research, generate and follow through on funding opportunities and other client centered requests
 Draft and produce meeting materials for grant making meetings, including grant request
overviews, application and report summaries, and grant history reports
 Review and evaluate grantee applications and reports for clarity and completeness
 Track and report on programs and distributions through the life-cycle of grants, using GrantedGE
and Raiser’s Edge databases
 Prepare and maintain procedural manuals for each grant process
 Conduct due diligence including monitoring applicant and grantee financial information to
support feasibility of program implementation and organizational sustainability
 Conduct research on organizations applying for grants
 Provide information and technical assistance as appropriate to applicants/grantees
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2-3 years of experience in grantmaking
- Outstanding written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills
- Strong typing skills (60+ WPM)
- Proficiency in Microsoft XP, Office (particularly Excel, Outlook and Word)
- Proficient in using the Internet
- Experience utilizing a donor database (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, DonorPerfect)
- Detail-oriented with the proven ability to track and manage several projects simultaneously
- Ability to work under supervision, collaboratively with others, and independently
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines
- High level of professionalism and discretion
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Los Angeles Jewish Community (highly preferred)
- Experience working with philanthropic individuals and families
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge
- Experience with GrantedGE (or other grantmaking database)
