Purpose and Goals
Cadette-O-Rama is an event that brings together Cadette Girl Scouts to camp and to
compete in skill and fun events. Over the weekend, they will feel the "togetherness" of Girl
Scouting and get acquainted with other troops and make new friends. This event
encourages basic knowledge of Girl Scout skills through competition and pride of
accomplishment and provides a weekend camping environment where all troops and girls
feel comfortable.
We hope that the experience will encourage your Cadettes to work together as a troop,
and that it will promote retention of Cadette Girl Scouts.

Troops that have a successful experience at COR (both new and experienced leaders)
spent an average of 4 meetings planning for it. If you won't have enough time to
adequately prepare, consider just visiting this year. If you come as a visitor, you must

Our Site
…has grass and some trees. There also may be
some nighttime critters, so make a point of throwing
your trash bags every night into the receptacle
behind the back fence. And don’t leave out food at
night or have any food in your tents.
… has very few tables. Each troop may move one
table from the camping area to their campsite, but it’s
first come, first served. It’s best if you don't rely on
having one. Return all tables to their original location
on Sunday. There are a number of tables near the
stage and the staff camping area. Troops may use
these tables but may not move any of them.
…would be a muddy mess if all the gray water was
dumped around our camp. For this reason, waste
water from your campsite should be poured along the
back fence near the porta-potties in the posted area,
and it should be free of food and waste. Do not pour
gray water in the portables or bathroom. Conserve on
the amount of water you use and you will have less water
to dump.
…will have a first aider for emergencies, but each troop is
responsible for its own minor first aid treatment. The first
aider will be located in the Headquarters area. A first
aider will also be in the events area during the evening
activities.
…does not allow open fires, so plan to cook on propane
or charcoal fires. And remember, Safety Activity
Checkpoints say no liquid gas may be used!
…has ample parking in the parking lots. No vehicles will
be allowed to park in the unloading zone during the
weekend.
…had bees last year.
…does not have bathrooms, so we'll be bringing in
portables. Each troop will be asked to do Sparkle Duty
during the weekend to spruce up the BIF area.
Cell phones do not work in the canyon, but we have
access to a land line in camp for emergency out-going
calls.
Things to Bring
 Your own troop American flag and lashed flagpole.
Remember to retire your flag at sunset!
 Flashlights: this is a campout and our site doesn’t
come equipped with lights.
 Banner: Each troop must display a troop banner. The
 Arm bands
banners may be any size (approximately 3' X 2' is the
usual size). The banner should display your troop
number, city, and troop name or symbol (if any).
 3 x 5 cards
 Tote containers for water would be smart to have.
Bring sport bottles to the event area. It can get very
warm, and we want everyone to be sure to drink
plenty of water.
 Toilet paper. We will NOT be restocking the BIFs.
 Hand washing, face washing, teeth brushing setup.
Hand sanitizer is nice, too. We will NOT be restocking
the BIFs.
 Downtime activities
 Tarps or sit-upons for Saturday evening program and
closing
 Special equipment for skill events
 Allergy medicine as needed. Girls must supply their
own and have written permission to take it.
 A Smile!

How Cadette-O-Rama Works
THEME: Pick a theme for your
troop and campsite decorations
based on Once Upon a Story! Be
creative! Select a popular book or
one of fantasy and fiction, and
consider simple costumes (keep
Safety Activity Checkpoints in mind),
campsite decorations, and banner
décor. Decorations may be made or
bought.
CADRES: Select two girls to
represent your troop while at
Cadette-O-Rama. They are the
liaison between troop and
headquarters for all information and
needs during the weekend, and their
time may count toward leadership
hours for Cadette recognitions. Your
Cadres should come to the Cadre
Center on arrival Friday to receive a
newsletter and their special ID.
There will also be a special meeting
for all Cadres on Friday night at
8:00. Once Upon a Story will be
explained at that time. Cadres are
invited to attend the Advisor’s
Meeting in September to learn more
about Cadette-O-Rama and their
role as Cadres.
CADRE CENTER: Location is
marked on your site map. This is
where all troop information is
distributed and all your questions
are answered. Please check in
between 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Friday.
PARTICIPATION AND SCORING:
Participation in the Skill and Fun
events is expected. A point
system will be used for
scoring each Skill and Fun
event. Pennants will be
presented at closing
ceremony on Sunday to the
troops that scored the highest
in Skills and Fun events.
Scores and score sheets from
individual events will be given
out after the closing
ceremony.
SMALL TROOPS: Troops
that feel they are too small to
adequately participate in any
of the events may combine with
another troop. However, combined
troops may only participate under
one number. Make sure HQ knows
you're planning to combine.
GUESTS: Please do not issue
blanket invitations to parents,
friends, or your own family to visit
Cadette-O-Rama.
RAIN: We have lived through rain,
hail, thunder and lightning, high
water, people sounds, winds, smog,
sand, wet grass, tall grass, mud,
Sunday morning sprinkler baths,
freeways and broken water pipes, so
why change now! Come regardless.
Be prepared! Be flexible! and have
fun!
ARE PARENTS PICKING UP
GIRLS DURING THE WEEKEND?
Make sure parents coming on to the
site have your campsite number and
the location of your campsite. Too
often parents show up without
knowing even the correct troop
number or the leader’s full name!
Have parent come through the front
entance.
SITE ASSIGNMENTS: You will get
an email no later than October 9
about your campsite. Look for
details about where you'll unload
your gear and park (there will be 2
such areas, and there will be
Parking Fairies on the road to help
direct you).
PATCHES: Event patches will be
distributed on Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to
10:00 a.m. when your evaluations
are turned in at the Cadre Center.
In case of emergency, day or night, please contact Headquarters.
New or gently used book collection
We will be collecting new and gently used books this year to help with a Gold Award Project. Get
more information about where to turn in your donation at the Cadre Center on Friday afternoon.
