Youth Giving Council - $10,000 GRANTED
In April, the newly formed Youth Giving Council at Summit High School awarded $10,000 in
grants to local nonprofits and student organizations. Comprised of students from the Summit
High School Leadership class, the Youth Giving Council was started in the fall of 2012. The
group focuses on teaching youth about philanthropy while allowing them to participate in the
grant process.
Students were led through creating a funding priority, developing a grant application,
determining a deadline for submission, and then sharing the opportunity with local nonprofits
and student groups. Groups applied to the Council for mini-grants (up to $1,500) that would
have a significant impact on Summit County youth. The Council then reviewed the applications
and determined their grant award amounts.
The students selected these groups to receive funds for the following projects:
After Prom Committee – Headline entertainment for the after prom event
Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center – Youth ski/snowboard program
Dillon Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program – New dock
