Majority of the photos in the collection feature photographic techniques
and/or compositional elements learned in class. This includes evidence
of an effort to change position or angle – to tell the story a different way than
just straight, head-on shots. Visual variety exists by representing multiple
angles (high, low, side, back) and distances (not all close/not all far away).

Necessary edits such as cropping, lighting adjustments and red/glowing eye
correction have been made to enhance the photos. Photos in the collection
are free of grain, blur and lighting issues that detract from the quality and/or
impact.

Photo content emphasizes action, emotion, faces and a strong center of
interest. Avoided are: backs, lowered heads, dark shadows, “mugging” for
camera, static (frozen, dull, boring) scenes and posed shots. Cropping
emphasizes the center of interest (which is in focus), eliminates unnecessary
areas, people or distractions, and leaves space where it’s needed. It avoids
mergers and/or chopping off body parts or pieces of objects at awkward
points.

before/middle/after the event/activity. For example: Team bonding combined
with stretching, emotion, action.

Caption Elements: contain the photographer’s initials at the beginning, with
a space before the first sentence begins; include grades, titles and first and
last names SPELLED CORRECTLY. All people featured are identified
completely and consistently. In group identifications, “Front…Row 2…Back”
are used. “Left” and “right” are considered unnecessary and thus eliminated.

Caption Content: are written in at least two sentences (first must be in
present tense but others can be in past tense) featuring correct spelling,
grammar and punctuation; writing is journalistic, covering as many of the 5
W’s & H as possible each time, without becoming repetitive. They employ a
variety of openings, begin with impact words instead of starting with “The…”
Phrases like “that” and “there are” are avoided whenever possible.

shot or someone who was there and has something very relevant to say (a
coach or spectator for example.) Quotes are from relevant subjects, not the
