Dear Parents,
We would like to welcome all our pupils back to school and extend a special welcome to our new Junior
Infant pupils and their parents who have all settled in very well after their first week in school.
We welcome Miss Tinnelly back to Corlea N.S. and wish Miss Dillon and Miss McNally the very best in their
new teaching positions. Ms Henry will continue as our Learning Support teacher and we are in the process
of recruiting a new Resource teacher. In the meantime Ms Entee will cover this position.
Building work in the school
We received funding from the Department of Education to carry out extensive renovations to the school
during the summer holidays. These included new windows, doors, heating system, insulation and
repair/decorating work.
I would like to thank all those involved in getting the school work finished on such a tight schedule allowing
us to open in time for the new school year. Particular thanks to the Chairperson Paddy Prendeville, the
Board of Management, Northlands Construction, Gypsum Industries, Mc Cahey Kitchens and John Kieran.
School Opening and Closing Times
School commences at 9.15 a.m. daily. The school will open daily from 9.00 a.m. to facilitate the dropping
off of pupils. School finishes at 2p.m. for Junior and Senior infants and 3 p.m. for all other pupils. Junior
Infants will go home at 12:30 for the two weeks.
For infant children we would encourage parents to drop them at the school gate in the morning to
encourage independence. When picking up infants, the teacher will walk them down to school gate where
they can be collected safely.
Uniform
Pupils are expected to wear their full school uniform every day. On Fridays they may wear tracksuit
bottoms and runners with their uniform t-shirt and jumper . It is essential that all pupils have their names on
all their belongings. Mynametags.ie provides personalised nametags for clothes and belongings.
School Absences
The Education act obliges our school to report any pupil who is absent for more than 20 days within the
school year to the Welfare Officer. It is important that if your child is absent a note of explanation is sent to
the school. Please complete one of the attached notes if your child is absent and send it to school with
them on their return to school. You will also find some in your child’s homework journal.
P.E
G.A.A. coaching takes place every Friday in the school alternating between the Junior and Senior and
Room. If your child does not have GAA coaching their class teacher will take them for P.E. on this day.
Therefore we would ask you to ensure tracksuit bottoms and suitable runners are worn on Friday.
Music
Sean Walsh will recommence tin whistle lessons in the school each Friday starting this Friday 11th
September. It costs €6 per child per month. These fees should be given to Sinead Platt (Parents
Association.) Please ensure your child has a Feadóg "D" whistle with them each Friday.
Homework
Students in 1st class – 6th classes received a copy of the school homework journal on Friday.
Homework will be given Monday through to Thursday. It is very important that it is fully completed each
night. Senior classes may occasionally have some project work which will run over a weekend. We ask that
all parents check that the correct homework is done before signing the journal each night. If there is a
reason why homework is not complete, a short written note from a parent should be given to the teacher.
Pupils in Junior and Senior Infants will receive a letter from their teacher explaining their homework.
Road Safety Authority Workshop
Emma Clerkin ( Road Safety Officer) will be running a road safety workshop for all children in the school on
Thursday 10th September. This will focus on how to be safe when walking, cycling, travelling by car and
travelling by bus.
St Marys Brass & Reed Band
The senior classes will receive a visit from St Mary Brass and Reed Band on Tuesday 8th September to tell
them about the band and give the children a chance to try out different instruments.
