Dear Parents and Guardians,
As the long days and warm breezes of summer settle into our memories, there
are a few adjustments to consider regarding our days at Mt. Nittany Middle
School. Thank you for taking a few minutes to consider the following:
Please make sure that your contact information, especially phone numbers,
are accurate and current. As winter approaches, the chance for school
delays, dismissals, and cancellations increases. State College will use the
telephone number you have indicated to contact you with important
announcements and information. Please consult the “For Parents” menu link
on the State College Area School District home page for further
information.
Winter also brings a few weather attire/clothing concerns of which we want
everyone to be aware. As weather and wind chills get progressively colder
outside, the heating system controls the temperature inside, and cold & flu
season settles down for its long winter’s nap, the Yellow Team wants to
encourage students to dress appropriately to assist in keeping everyone
healthy.
INSIDE: Some of the classrooms are warm and some of the classrooms
are cold. Layering, especially with a sweatshirt, sweater, or fleece can be
helpful when working in and moving between classrooms throughout the
day. Jackets will remain in lockers, so students who get warm/cold may
want to plan accordingly.
OUTSIDE: In addition, weather permitting; we will plan to take students
outside for our scheduled recess each day. Students will need to plan
for the colder weather when going outside for lunch or team recess.
The Yellow Team requires students to wear a winter jacket during those
times; those sweatshirts, sweaters, and fleeces for inside are not
considered to be a winter jacket. Students wishing to go outside
following lunch are to bring their winter jacket to the cafeteria; they will
also be given time before classroom recess to retrieve their winter jacket
from their lockers. As the temperatures dip even further, gloves and/or
hats may also be required and many students have kept a spare pair in
their lockers for colder days to avoid frostbite. We love to get the
students outside so that they can take a break and stay active, and we
also want them to stay healthy while doing so.
All best and thank you for your continuing support,
Yellow Team
