Dear Parents,
The report cards were sent home on Friday, January 9th. Please
look for those to sign and return with the envelopes. I was very proud
of the hard work that the kids put in this past nine weeks We will
look forward to another amazing quarter together!
Career Spirit Week is coming this week. The students have an
opportunity of dressing up each day (see the reminders above). The
students were given a questionnaire to have a parent answer about
careers. Please make time to answer these questions for your child.
They will be turned in for a grade to Mrs. Carr, and presented in class.
That way, everyone in the class will benefit from learning about many
different careers.
Our class is in need of a few things for the New Year. The
students are in need of more Strive for Five prizes. The kids have
really enjoyed the small individually wrapped candy, small toys, and
jewelry that you all sent in August. We are also in need of more paper
towels, wipes, and Windex. If you are able to send in any of these
items to help out our classroom, we would all appreciate it!
Here are some upcoming activities for our class:
Math for Mrs. Paul’s class and Mrs. Carr’s class:
Both classes will continue working on Unit 5, Measuring Polygons. We
will focus on examining angles and classifying polygons, quadrilaterals
and angles, and a sequence of squares. There will be a quiz on Unit 5
Investigation 1 on Tuesday, January 13th. The students will be
working on a real world problem on perimeter and area on Thursday,
January 15th. Then there will be a Summative Test on Unit 5 on
Friday, January 16th.
Social Studies for Mrs. Paul’s class and Mrs. Carr’s class:
Both classes will be focused on Chapter 7, The Fight for a Continent.
We will focus on the Spanish moving north, the French exploring the
Mississippi, and the French and Indian War. There students will be
working on graphic organizers throughout the chapter. The students
will be taking a test on Chapter 7 on Wednesday, January 14th. Then
we will turn our attention on Chapter 8, The Road to War. We will look
at trouble over taxes, the colonists rebelling, and the revolution
beginning.
Science for Mrs. Paul’s Class:
We will continue with Chapter 12, Changes in Matter. We will look at
what chemical changes are, some kinds of chemical reactions, how
chemical properties are used, and how chemical technology is used in
our lives. The students will have a study guide and lesson summaries
with questions for each lesson.
Thank you for your support! Please e-mail me if you have any
questions.
