Explanatory Notes.
(These notes are for guidelines only and do not purport to be a legal interpretation
of the provisions concerned).

A licence application shall be accompanied by:(a)

Three copies of such plans and such other particulars as are necessary to
describe the premises, drainage system and any works, apparatus or plant
from which the effluent is to be discharged and to identify the point of
discharge to the sewer.
Particulars of the nature, composition, anticipated temperature, volume
and rate of discharge of, and the proposed method of any treatment of, the
effluent and the period or periods during which the effluent is to be
discharged.
A general description of the process or activity giving rise to the
discharge.
Copy of Certificate of Incorporation.
Application fee of €380.

A Licence is not required for discharge to a sewer of domestic sewage or storm
water.
3.
“Trade Effluent” is defined in Section 1 of the Local Government (Water
Pollution) Act, 1977 as follows, viz:“Trade Effluent” means effluent from any work, apparatus, plant or drainage pipe
used for the disposal to waters or to a sewer of any liquid (whether treated or
untreated), either with or without particles of matter in suspension therein, which
is discharged from premises used for carrying on any trade or industry (including
mining), but does not include domestic sewage or storm water.
