Essential Unit 1 (EO1)
Developing a Plan of Success
(JULY 2011)
Unit Statement:
The student will develop an individualized plan containing goals, timeframes, and project
ideas for their portfolio completion. (This plan should be revised and adjusted as the
course progresses.)
Essential Outcomes:
1. The Student Will actively review the IB Visual Arts guidelines and expectations
for Candidate Record Booklet (CRB) submission and show an understanding of IB
Visual Arts rubrics in Appendix by generating versions in their own words.
2. TSW identify their own strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes as an artist
through a self reflective process which is guided by the teacher.
3. TSW work in collaboration with the teacher to create a detailed list of ideas for
projects that fit the student’s needs in creating a CRB.
4. TSW work in collaboration with the teacher to create an individualized plan that
includes goals and timeframes to successfully submit a CRB to the examiner
and to complete the class.
Suggested Materials:
2009 IB Visual Arts First Examination 2009 Teacher’s Guide.
The Virtual Art Gallery provides photographs of artworks produced by students
from all over the world in several different media. It can be accessed directly from
the OCC.
Suggested Assessment Tools and Strategies:
Teacher observation, questioning, and critiquing.
Student participation and response.
Use of rubric.
