Vice President for Enrollment Management
George Mason University – an innovative, entrepreneurial institution with global distinction in a
range of academic fields – seeks an experienced and skilled enrollment professional with
exceptional leadership, strategic, and collaboration skills for the role of Vice President for
Enrollment Management.
Located in the heart of Northern Virginia’s technology corridor near Washington, D.C., George
Mason prepares its students to succeed in the work force and to meet the needs of the region
and the world. With strong undergraduate and graduate degree programs in engineering,
information technology, public policy, economics, visual and performing arts, life sciences, and
biotechnology, Mason students are routinely recognized with national and international
scholarships. Enrollment is more than 33,000, with students studying in over 200 degree
programs at the undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and professional levels. Mason’s
commitment to teaching excellence, along with cutting-edge research that enriches the
academic experience, makes the university a very attractive option for top students. Mason is
affordable, yet offers high value. The university’s location makes it easy for students to enjoy
world class cultural experiences and to have easy access to the most sought-after internships
and employers in the country.
Reporting directly to the Provost and serving as a member of the President’s Council, the Vice
President will envision, develop, and implement an ambitious and comprehensive enrollment
plan that will help achieve the goals outlined in Mason’s 2014-2024 Strategic Plan. The Vice
President will provide leadership for all University admissions – undergraduate, graduate,
international, and transfer – and financial aid. As a visible institutional leader and strong
advocate for Mason’s enrollment division, the Vice President will partner closely with other
campus units, including working closely with the academic deans, student life staff, and the
other members of the Provost’s leadership team. In support of Mason’s campus-wide retention
initiatives, the Vice President will be attuned to the entire student trajectory from application to
graduation, and she or he will provide thought leadership, insight, and data expertise as a key
retention partner.
George Mason University has grown and continues to grow impressively in size, stature, and
influence. Now a standard-setter among modern public universities, Mason’s reach is both deep
and broad, extending from Virginia, as the commonwealth’s largest public university,
throughout the United States. Under the leadership of a dynamic President and Provost, Mason
is in a period of tremendous opportunity. With a new Vice President for Enrollment
Management, Mason is renewing its commitment to a more deliberate approach to enrollment
and seeks an entrepreneurial, nimble, and analytically accomplished Vice President to take the
leadership role in integrated strategic enrollment planning.
The successful candidate will oversee all areas related to student recruitment, admissions, and
financial aid, leading an enrollment effort that ensures student access while expanding
institutional impact, strength, reach, and revenue. The Vice President will bring exceptional
planning, analytical, and organizational skills; a thorough understanding of enrollment
management concepts; strength in working with data to achieve enrollment goals, and a
demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful enrollment strategies or initiatives.
She or he will also possess superior interpersonal communication skills; an ability to manage
and motivate a diverse professional staff; and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and the
value of an accessible and inclusive learning community.
Inquiries, nominations, and applications are invited. Review of applications will continue until
the position is filled. Candidates should provide a resume and a letter of application that
addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the leadership profile, available at
