CLASS PLACEMENT POLICY
Rationale
To provide maximum educational benefit for each child, careful consideration is to be given to
the class placement for the year. Each child is individually considered in respect of the
intellectual, social and behavioural dynamics of the particular cohort of children, and a class
placement is made.
Procedure
 A placement committee is established for each year level.
 The placement committees consider each child in respect to the placement criteria.
 Each class group is reviewed as a whole to ensure a reasonable balance.
Criteria for Placement
 Academic ability
 Maturity
 Peer Group
 Behaviour
 Achievement and
Compatibility
 Personality clashes
 Siblings
Where will a child achieve to potential?
Does the child display maturity appropriate to the age group?
How well does a child interact with a particular group of peers?
Is it necessary to separate children with particular behaviour traits?
Do particular children work well together?
Are there personality clashes between children?
Is there an over-dependence or a rivalry between siblings?
Publication of Class Placements
Class groups will be published by Friday of week prior to end of school year. Once the classes
are published we will not be in a position to make adjustments.
Appeals
Persons wishing to appeal against class placement must do so in writing, stating the reasons
for such objection. Appeals will only be considered in terms of the placement criteria.
