JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:
Academic Supervisor
PURPOSE:
To contribute to the oversight of the teaching staff and provide
academic counseling for teachers, parents and students at LPCA
REPORTS TO:
Head Administrator
JOB SUMMARY:
The Academic Supervisor helps supervise the teaching staff,
coordinate the placement of students within their respective school
program, oversee curriculum, lesson plan development, curriculum
implementation and specific curriculum guidelines,
and monitor student grades.
CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS: The Academic Supervisor is asked to uphold the
school’s statement of faith and lead by example in a way that
glorifies God and honors His son, Jesus Christ.
DUTIES:
The Academic Supervisor is responsible for contributing to the oversight of the
teaching staff:
 works closely with teachers to monitor the implementation of policies
 offers support as it relates to classroom management, grading, communicating
with co-teachers, ect.
 provides information and training for teachers to enable them to teach successfully
at Legacy Prep
 Ensure teachers perform required duties and follow procedures and guidelines
indicated in Staff Handbook
 monitors the teachers grade book and logs all activity and communication
concerning grading issues
 organizes and conducts monthly teacher meetings during school year
 Recommend teachers for rehire.
 Maintain departmental records of teacher training, evaluations, yearly
communication, and staff development plans.
 assists teachers in dealing with proper placement issues concerning students
 provides teachers access to student files and helps them to be aware of any
academic issues related to student learning
 remains current on relative trend data regarding grading, placement issues and
their effects on the classroom and teacher
 conducts teacher evaluations each semester
 works with Department Heads to ensure teacher capabilities in the classroom as it
relates to departmental specifics (in Middle and High School)
 oversees the teaching staff by contributing to the overall performance summary of
the teaching staff
 using the objectives developed for each course, the Supervisor helps the teacher
assess whether or not the student has met the objectives by the end of the year
and what methods are best for this assessment
 reviewing new teacher applications and hiring new teachers as needed
 contacting references and previous employers of incoming potential teaching staff
The Academic Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the academic status of
all students:
 Checks grades periodically to assess students academic achievement in their
respective grade level
 Monitor expedition of progress reports and report cards
 Works with teachers to resolve grading issues
 Meets with parents regarding grade issues
 Review/file student progress reports and report cards
 Provides academic counseling to new and current families regarding grades
 Help develop and oversee placement testing upon admission to Legacy Prep
 Responsible for setting up, analyzing and reporting information regarding
achievement testing
 Helps develop and establish the course schedule for the fall and spring semester
The Academic Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the academic placement
of all students:
 Provides academic counseling to new and current families regarding placement
 Works with teachers to resolve placement issues
 Meets with parents regarding placement issues
 Create and maintain placements tests and oversee administration in the summer
and during the year
The Academic Supervisor is responsible for working closely with the registrar
and is responsible for student scheduling:
 Helps oversee registration
 Works with Guidance Counselor and Dean of Curriculum to organize schedules
 Creates class schedules for the fall and spring semesters
 Creates student schedules for the fall and spring semesters
 Confirms accurate student placement by conferring with previous teachers
The Academic Supervisor is responsible for planning and coordinating the
administration of the Stanford Achievement tests to all students ninth grade
and below.
The Academic Supervisor is responsible for analyzing and reporting
information to the administration and board related to achievement testing:
 Stanford Achievement tests are analyzed for trend data regarding curriculum
 Stanford Achievement tests are analyzed for trend data regarding individual
student progress
 Data is analyzed and reported to all stakeholders
 The Academic Supervisor is responsible for analyzing and understanding all the
standards contributing to accreditation that involve advising, grading, placement,
and achievement scores.
The Dean of Curriculum will work with Department Heads, teachers, parents
and administration to develop, select and implement curriculum at Legacy
Prep:
 Work closely with Department Heads to monitor the implementation of curriculum
within the classroom (in Middle and High School).
 Coordinate training required for teachers to successfully implement curriculum
within the classroom.
 Ensure curriculum is in line with Legacy’s mission and vision.
 Ensure Biblical Integration is implemented throughout Legacy curriculum.
 Participate in meetings to facilitate coordination of the curriculum and assistance








with teaching techniques, classroom management, and parent/student
relationships, as it relates to the curriculum.
Work closely with teachers to ensure their fluency in their subject matter and
capability of delivering curriculum content within the classroom.
Interview incoming teachers and make recommendations for hire to Head
Administrator.
Maintain curriculum standards as it relates to accreditation
Ensure curriculum meets or exceeds TEKS and the NAUMS standards.
As needed, coordinate and help develop lesson plans for new and developing
curriculum.
Oversee the maintenance of overviews, individual course curriculum guides, scope
and sequence, curriculum requirements
Coordinate with members of the Academic team to streamline curriculum across
grade levels.
Lead the Academic efforts as necessary during NAUMS certification and AdvancEd
accreditation.
Dean of Curriculum is responsible to oversee implementation of Curriculum:
 Develop and maintain departmental philosophies, scope and sequences, goals and
objectives, adjusting as needed to better fit program needs and insure excellence
relating to teaching; via curriculums, curriculum guide, grading and other
standards, and other academic program development.
 Manage the teaching material inventory. Collaborate with Academic Team to
ensure correct curriculum pieces for our online bookstore, classbook.com.
 Manage the departmental budget and coordinate requests/purchases for
curriculum, teaching materials, and supplies from the teachers needed for the
academic program.
 Work closely with the DOFM to ensure Biblically integrated lesson objectives
across the curriculum and equip teachers to teach purposefully through a biblical
worldview.
As part of the administrative team, the Dean of Curriculum is responsible for
supporting the mission of Legacy Prep and being a Christian role model for
teachers, parents, and students:
 Meet with administrator on a regular basis to discuss existing curriculum issues,




developing curriculum needs; address needs or problems with curriculum; and
encourage overall program development within each department.
Be alert to recognize and report Christian character, good attitude, positive
behavior; and, in cases where these are deficient, hold students and teachers
accountable.
Encourage and facilitate efforts within the school to fulfill the mission of Legacy
Prep on spiritual and academic levels.
Support Department Heads and other staff by exemplifying the qualities desired in
teachers and praying consistently for them.
Participate in planning and implementation of events and programs including but
not limited to Co-Teacher training, Meet the Teacher Night, and other academicrelated events.
