5. Program Description:
Cardiothoracic Anesthesia is the subspecialty of anesthesiology devoted to the
preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of patients undergoing
cardiothoracic surgery and related procedures.

8. Program Objectives:
8.1 To acquire the knowledge, judgment, and skills requisite with recognition as a
consultant anesthesiologist with subspecialty expertise in Cardiothoracic
Anesthesia
8.2 To develop specialized expertise in the performance and interpretation of
perioperative hemodynamic monitoring
8.3 To participate actively in clinical cardiothoracic intensive care unit.

9. Program Contents:
Adult cardiac-vascular anesthesia 2 months
Adult thoracic anesthesia 1 month
Pediatric cardiothoracic anesthesia 1 month
Adult critical care (post-cardiac surgery) 1 month
Cardiac catheterization and interventional lab 2 weeks
Extracorporeal perfusion 2 weeks
10. Clinical / Academic Activities:
10.1 Clinical
10.1.1 Fellows will spend Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesday and Friday in the
cardiac room under the supervision of the staff cardiac anesthesiologists
10.1.2 Fellow will spend time in cardiothoracic intensive care
10.2 Academic
10.2.1 Attend the 3rd Thursday of each month, morning joint Cardiology – CVT
rounds. Review patients for upcoming week.
10.2.2 Input patient data into the Cardiac Anesthesia database.
10.2.3 Teaching/Presentations: Thursday Afternoon Rounds (1 review article,
1 journal club and 1 interesting case presentation)

15.3 Documentation of an active medical practice affiliation with a national or regional
medical facility in home nation.
15.4 Evidence of financial support from the affiliated medical facility for the study visit
15.5 Evidence of financial support for travel and personal expenses during the training
period.
15.6 A 1-2 page letter describing the interesting item.
15.7 A valid passport from the home country and eligibility to obtain a visa to travel to
Thailand if selected.
15.8 History of immunization.
