WILBER-CLATONIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The regular monthly meeting of the Wilber-Clatonia Public Schools Board of Education was called to order at 8:00 P.M. on Monday, October 17, 2005, in the board room at the high school by Chairman Robert

Sykes. Members in attendance were: Robert Sykes, Jerry Petracek, Tere Francis, Scott Havel, and Galen

Beck. Member absent and excused: Chris Cerveny. Also in attendance were Superintendent, Dave Rokusek;

Secondary Principal, Ron Oltman; Elementary Principal, Allen Brozovsky; Ad/Technology Coordinator,

Keith Muller, Glenna Heller, Bruce Becher, Kurt Kiesel, Bonnie Kreshel, and students from senior government class.

President Sykes welcomed visitors and reviewed the procedures for addressing the board.

Motion by Tere Francis, second by Galen Beck, to approve the following consent items. Motion carried

5-0.

Approval of Agenda

Approval of minutes of the September 17 th 2005 meeting

General Fund Claims $353,213.69

Special Building Fund Claims $197,258.90

Qualified Capital Purpose Undertaking Fund Claims: -0-

Employment of Josie Zajicek part-time custodian position

The board discussed the time line for the demolition of the old elementary. Superintendent Rokusek informed the board of the recent asbestos testing and plans to remove all asbestos prior to demolition. The board also discussed the particulars concerning the K-4 campus area and converting that area into lots for development and sale. Superintendent Rokusek was to proceed with the legal steps leading to development of that area for future house lots.

Mrs. Heller reviewed student achievement and test scores for the school. National achievement, state standards and writing assessment; and ACT scores over the past years where charted and discussed.

Mr. Rokusek reminded the board of the state external team visit on October 28 th and reviewed the agenda inviting board members to attend and visit the external team members.

The board reviewed the adjusted valuations of the school district determined by the Department of Property and Taxations for the purpose of state aide formula. No taken by the board.

The annual workers compensation school report showed a slight drop in the experience modification factor from 1.58% to 1.36% which long term will lead to a better insurance rate.

District goals were reviewed by the administration through a oral progress report of each goal.

Mr. Rokusek reported that the auditors reviewed the financial books of the school in October. Their written report to be available to the board in November. No major discrepancies were found.

The board briefly discussed possible topics for the board retreat. The board president and superintendent will plan the retreat and plan to update district goals. Administrative reports were given by Mr. Oltman, Mr.

Brozovsky and Mr. Muller. Mr. Oltman gave an update of the multicultural activities done in the school and most recently the multicultural day. The board went on record thanking teacher James Bates for organizing the Multicultural Day activities and writing the Nebraska Arts Council Grant. Mrs. Brozovsky briefly reviewed a possible art project for the elementary school involving Mr. Becher’s and Mr. Kenning’s classes. Designs will be brought back to the administration and board. Mr. Rokusek reminded all that the school sale will be Sunday, October 23 rd at 11:00am. Mr. Muller reviewed the proposed basketball practice schedule utilizing the new gym. No travel to Clatonia will be needed.

Motion by Scott Havel, second by Galen Beck, to move into executive session to discuss personnel matters.

Motion carried 5-0. The closed session commenced at 9:45 P.M. Motion by Scott Havel, second by Jerry

Petracek, that the board come out of executive session. Motion carried 5-0. Executive session concluded at

9:47 pm and the President declared the meeting to be in open session.

Hearing no objection the meeting was adjourned by President Sykes at 9:48 P.M.

The next Regular Scheduled meeting of the Wilber-Clatonia Public Schools Board of Education will be held on Monday, November 21, 2005 at 7:00 P.M.
