Expectations






In an effort to create the best environment that will meet our objectives, all
participants are expected to remain substance-free (no alcohol or drugs are
possessed or consumed) upon arrival at Camp Loch Leven through the duration
of Leadership Academy (Thursday, June 11 - Sunday, June 14).
Camp Loch Leven prohibits smoking in cabins or other facilities. Smoking is
permitted in designated areas only.
Participants are expected to attend all sessions, be an active participant and be
present for the entire Academy experience starting June 11 (beginning at kick-off
at 3 p.m.) and ending June 14 (ending with Legacy of Leadership at 11:30 a.m.).
Complete the strengths quest assessment prior to arriving to academy.
Have fun, meet new brothers and enjoy a national Phi Kappa Tau experience!

Note: During the Free times indicated above, participants are to remain on the Camp
Loch Leven properties.
What to bring

 Resources you wish to share with other brothers from across the country
What to wear
Leadership Academy dress is casual. It is typically very hot and humid in June so please
pack accordingly. Shorts, T-shirts (appropriate slogans only), polos, or collared shirts,
sandals or tennis shoes are appropriate attire for Leadership Academy. You should also
bring tennis shoes, workout clothes, and swimming trunks for free times and activities.
Closed toed shoes are also required for the ropes course. The following is the attire
schedule for Leadership Academy:

*You will be provided with the LA and SeriousFun T-shirts upon arrival at Leadership
Academy.
Weather
Weather in California in June is usually sunny and dry although occasional humidity
possible. Temperatures range from 80-90 during the day. You can visit
www.weather.com and enter the zip code: 92359 for up-to-the minute weather in
Mentone.
Accommodations
In order to foster a living-learning environment, participants will be housed in Camp Loch
Leven cabins with their fellow community members and leadership coaches. Each
participant will room with multiple members from other chapters. Linens, towels and a
pillow are provided; you may want to bring an additional towel for personal use.
All meals, including breakfast, are provided beginning with dinner on Thursday, June 11
and ending with a boxed lunch on Sunday, June 14.
Travel
Leadership Academy participants are responsible for making their own travel
arrangements to and from Mentone.
Early Arrivals
If you need to arrive early (on June 10) due to insufficient flights on the morning of June
11, please contact Program Intern Darryl Thompson ASAP at
programintern@phikappatau.org.
Flying to Academy
Those flying should book their arrival flight no later than noon on Thursday, June 11
and the departure flight no earlier than 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 14. Air travel
arrangements should be made as soon as possible to ensure reasonable fares. Flights
should be scheduled in and out of Ontario International Airport (ONT).
Airline Transportation and Shuttle Service
In order to be eligible for airport pickup, you must send your travel form to
Program Intern Darryl Thompson at programintern@phikappatau.org by June 4.
Shuttle service from ONT (Ontario Airport) will be provided to those registrants who have
submitted their travel itineraries during the following designated times:
Thursday, June 11
Sunday, June 14
Shuttle pick-ups between 9 a.m.-noon
Shuttle leaves Camp Loch Leven at 12:15 p.m.
When you arrive at the Ontario Airport (ONT), please proceed to the baggage claim
areas where a member of Phi Kappa Tau will meet you.
If your flight is delayed, cancelled or if you have any last-minute concerns, please call
Program Intern Darryl Thompson at 804-385-9235.
Driving to Academy
Those driving should plan on arriving no later than 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11.
When departing Leadership Academy, plan on leaving no earlier than noon on Sunday,
June 14.
Driving Directions
Participants driving to Leadership Academy can drive straight to camp (36910 Mill Creek
Rd. Mentone, CA 92359).
Substitutions
If you are no longer attending Academy, but someone is attending in your place, please
submit all name changes before May 29 by emailing programintern@phikappatau.org or
call (800)PKT-1906. All substitutions after May 29 will be assessed a $50 change fee.
Cancellations
If you are no longer able to attend Leadership Academy, please email
programintern@phikappatau.org immediately. Cancellations are non-refundable.
If you are a sponsorship recipient, please remember to cancel your Leadership Academy
registration on or before May 29 or you will be held responsible to refund your
sponsorship in full to the Foundation.
Choosing to not attend all scheduled events of the session will result in your chapter
being billed $500 per an absent person.
Students may not arrive late or depart early. NO EXCEPTIONS.
On-Site Registration
Once on site, please proceed to the Stone Lodge to register and to receive further
instructions along with your Leadership Academy materials.
Emergency Contact Number
Please provide the onsite contact number to your parent(s) if they need to get in to
contact with you due to an emergency and unable to reach you.
