St Damian’s Newsletter September 2014
Scoildamian.scoilnet.ie and scoildamian.scoilnet.ie/blog
Welcome back to everyone in St Damian’s and in particular welcome to our new Junior Infant class who started last
Thursday. We look forward to doing our best here to provide your child with the best possible education.
The Start of year Class Curriculum meetings for parents will be held on Thursday, September 11th between 5.30pm &
7pm (exact class times will follow this week). The 2014/15 school calendar will be available next week.
New school start time is 8.50am. The school yard is open to children from 8.45am. Please try to ensure your child is
on time for school every day and that he/she is in line with the other children before school starts. Please do not
accompany children to their class.
Shared reading for Junior Infants to 2nd class will begin in September. Please consider volunteering if you have a
spare hour one morning a week-Further details to follow.
Last year we experienced a lot of difficulty with our texting home service. We have changed providers. All Homes
should have received a text from the school last week (it will appear on your phone as Edvance). If you did not
receive a text please call Audrey in the school office (014508932) asap and let her know so you can be included on
the service. The charge for this service is reduced this year to €5 per family. Please send this fee in an envelope
marked school text money and your child/children’s name to a Class Teacher.
Please label all clothes and other property belonging to your child. The school hall will be open tomorrow morning
from 8.50-10.50am. All of the clothes we found last year will be available there for collection. If your child lost any
clothes last year please come and look in the morning. Any uncollected clothes that are in good condition will be
donated to St Vincent de Paul.
Please check the school booklist in the Parents section of our website for details of the contribution for each child.
We need this money to run the school and we ask all Parents to make every effort to give this contribution as soon
as possible.
The Book Rental scheme is open to every child from 2nd-6th class. If your child is renting books please enclose the
book rental fee in an envelope with your child’s name and class clearly marked on the front and give it to your child’s
class Teacher. Please talk with your child about the importance of looking after all books and in particular book
rental books as we will need them all again next year.
Swimming classes for classes 2nd to 6th will continue in Templeogue College swimming pool this year. 3rd and 4th
classes will be taught during the first term beginning on Tue 16th September-Further details to follow to those
classes.
The Start of Year School Mass will be held on Friday September 26th at 12pm in school hall, all welcome. Please note
