– Motors made solely for inverter operation
– Motors completely integrated into a machine pumps, fans & compressors

• December 2007 Energy Independence & Security Act of 2007 (ESIA) signed into
law with the backing of NEMA
• Program is known as NEMA PREMIUM and has four main areas:
– Total Operating Cost
– Easy Identification of High Efficiency Motors
– Optimizing Systems Efficiency
– Reduce Electrical Consumption

• How will this effects submersible pumps?
• Why the need to move to a Premium Efficient Motor?
– July 2009 EU adopted standard requiring all constant speed motors to be
Premium Efficient (IE3) by January 1 2015 (does not include Motors on VFD)
– All motors must be IE3 by January 1 2017
– As of right now you can get by with Standard & EPAct but the regulation is
quickly heading towards total adoption of the IEC standards

ENGERGY STANDARDIZATION
• Fall of 2012 ANSI launched the Energy Efficiency Standardization Coordination
Collaborative (EESCC)
• The intent of the EESCC is to set the standard by which will cover all domestic
motors including pumps
• Prevailing thought is it will be very similar to the IEC standards
EESCC Objective: Effective deployment of standardization among the public & private sectors

SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT
• USDA/CDBG credits for municipalities utilizing LEED/Green products up to 20%
forgiveness of loan and lower interest rate.
• EU has Capital Allowance Tax Credits for business that can be up to 100% of
capital investments
• US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee has adopted a NEMA
advocated provision known as “crush for credit” program to offset higher costs
– Will provide up to $350 million in incentives to convert
– $25 per horsepower rebate
