is Supply Chain Strategy which aims to make supply chains more effective and efficient in
delivering value for a companies.
Background
Digital platforms and products are expanding and evolving, changing the way people live,
work, shop and do business. Developing a supply chain solution to address the
challenges presented by digital transformation, the impact on retail and the demands of the
Omni-channel world does not happen overnight – It requires a strategy that is flexible and
evolves with changing challenges. Deloitte Consulting’s Supply Chain Strategy service line
is highly active in this field and is looking for an intern to support the research related to
omni-channel and supply chain capabilities
Assignment
During the internship the graduate will be responsible for desk research supporting the
point-of-view development, developing a supply chain capability survey, manage the
survey process and interpret the results. This will be the basis of the graduation thesis
around best practices and key capabilities in supply chain to survive in an omni-channel
world. In addition to desk research and the survey, the graduate will support the omnichannel team in client interviews to enrich the point of view as well as gather real life
examples of omni-channel best practices. A key deliverable of the internship will be an
omni-channel supply chain maturity model to map existing and future omni-channel actors
and assess the current and desired level of maturity.

Which planning platforms are typically used within FMCG
and Manufacturing Industry to manage the business?
Introduction
Have you ever considered graduating at a consultancy firm? At Deloitte Consulting, we
advise the private sector on understanding their business. One of the areas of specialism
is Supply Chain Strategy which aims to make supply chains more effective and efficient in
delivering value for a companies.
Background
Literature defines different models for business planning on strategic, tactical, and
operational level. Companies have implemented these planning models and customized
them to fit their business environment. Based on our experience in supply chain planning
and market knowledge, we are in the process of developing a paper that gives full insight
in the planning platforms that are used at companies within the FMCG and Manufacturing
Industry and which of them are most effective.
Assignment
During the internship the graduate will be responsible for desk research, developing a
planning capability survey, manage the survey process, and interpret the results. The
graduate will support the team in client interviews to enrich the paper with best practices.
The key deliverables as mentioned below are input to the paper that will answer the
following questions: Which planning planning platforms are used at major players in FMCG
and Manufactury Industry? How can these planning platforms be characterized in terms of
objectives, planning horizon, the planning items (e.g. sales, production capacity,
transportation capacity)? Which planning platforms are best practice and why?

How could sustainable sourcing drive a compelling
business case for a Sustainable future?

Sustainable Sourcing which aims to make companies more sustainable and innovative.
Background
Today’s companies are more and more responsible for the environmental and societal
impact of their decisions. Suppliers have significant influence on the environmental
footprint of a company and are therefore important to involve in their journey to a fully
integrated sustainable organisation. The main challenge for companies is to incorporate
sustainability and to stimulate innovation, while minimizing cost and maximizing return on
investment.
Assignment
You will be responsible for developing a business case on Sustainable Sourcing. The
business case includes answering questions such as: What are the strengths and
weaknesses of a sustainable sourcing strategy? How can companies create competitive
advantage by integrating sustainability in their procurement strategy and processes? What
are the financial and sustainable benefits for the organisation?
The assignment consists of desk research, a survey and some additional interviews to
enrich the business case as well as gather real life examples of best practices in the
Consumer Business industry regarding sustainability. The key deliverable will be a
business case that is compelling and raises the bar for the industry.

trends and opportunities. Deloitte supports clients to overcome these challenges by
implementing transitions that create more value.
Assignment
You will be examining what’s on the CPO’s agenda of our clients today What trends in
Sourcing and Procurement can we distinguish and what are the typical challenges for
different types of organisations? What are the future requirements for procurement to
survive in this changing economic environment and to create competitive advantage?
The assignment consists of desk research, a survey and some additional interviews to
enrich the received data. Furthermore you will be responsible for managing the survey
process and interpreting the results. The main deliverable will be an analysis of the current
capabilities of organizations compared to the challenges they are facing and their strategic
direction.

How does the sustainability imperative influence operations
and what role has supply chain management to play?

delivering value for a companies.
Background
Sustainability is becoming a more and more important topic in business. A companies
value chain is an area where typically cost can be reduced and / or higher added value can
be delivered when improving in a sustainable way. Another aspect of this is the increasing
(European) regulations pushing companies to increase their targets on environmental
topics, resulting in companies required to comply to the regulations
Assignment
• Map out the main points of interest concerning sustainability within the complete value
chain for a specific industry (industry to be determined in collaboration with the student)
• Make an estimation of potential cost reductions, assess the implementation costs and
return on investments for one of these opportunities
• Highlight the ‘softer’ advantages of a sustainable supply chain, such as inclusion in the
annual sustainability report and increased brand reputation
• Possible publishing of this research (white paper or academic paper), with as scope to
further develop the current academic theoretical framework of the sustainable
operations assessment methodology by testing the theory in practice
