Results
Businesses are always about bottom line.
 Businesses are
accustomed to dealing
with an end product.
 A business will influence
and improve the
product to ensure it’s a
winner.
Do you realize NAF
Advisory Boards function
somewhat like a business…
with its bottom line being
student achievement?
Yea or Nay?
Engaging an Advisory Board
What are ways to ensure that
advisory board members leave
Board meetings and events feeling
that their contribution was
valued?
Sustaining Advisory Board Members
When advisory board members are engaged,
sustainability will prevail.
Remember the Five Rs
Challenges
Guiding Questions
• The by-laws address succession planning, committee
membership, meeting attendance and membership
termination.
• How do the AB Chair and Academy
Director communicate regularly
between AB meetings?
• How can you ensure continuity from active business partner
companies if an employee must leave the AB?
Guiding Questions
• What material needs does your academy have that could be
financed by your board members monetarily or as an in-kind
contribution?
• How can the AB raise money and/or develop
resources to support/sustain the academy?
• What AB recruitment strategies will be used
to find members who can successfully
serve on a standing committee?
What Advisory Board
structure do you think
would lend itself to
engagement and
sustainability?
