Hello and welcome to PoliGlobe the world’s
first environmentally conscious political
consulting firm.
We are glad to have you as an employee. Please
review your first assignment with the rest of the
news speech writing team.
Meet your first client. Her name is Patricia Cabell, she prefers to be called ”Pat” for
short. Pat is kicking off her campaign for Ohio State Assembly and she needs a good
team of speech writers to help her.
Pat has been asked to address a diverse audience of her constituents at Ohio State
University next week and she needs to be well prepared. While Pat has done her
homework and is up to date on current Ohio issues, a new issue has come to her
attention that she knows very little about. This issue is “fracking”.
For your first assignment you and your team will need to learn about fracking,
prepare a “go-to” list for Pat, and write four speeches for her in the form of
persuasive essays.
Pat is a promising candidate and this is an important issue. Research the topic fully
and do your best to create a compelling argument that can be used to defend both
sides of the issue.

On the left you’ll see Pat’s “to-do” list. Click on it and
read what you will need to do to effectively complete
this task.
As a team you will:
1. Explain what the term “fracking” means.
2. Create a go-to list. A go-to list is basically a pro’s and con’s
list. This list will need to include ten positive and ten negative
factors associated with fracking.
3. Answer this question fully, “Who is affected by fracking and
how?”
Independently you will:
4. Write one persuasive essays that Pat can use to discuss
fracking. Pat has asked that we provide at least four essays
total, two essays for fracking and two essays against fracking.
This means that as a team you will have to decide who writes
each essay.
