Learning Studio can offer you and your students
Media Literacy
 Defined as the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and
create information in a variety of formats, including
print and non-print messages.
Why It’s Important

that can make them more successful
 Related to information literacy-where the library can
have a meaningful, lasting impact on student success
Transforming Paper-Based
Assignments into Digital Media
Assignments
Transforming Paper-Based
Assignments
 Questions to ask
 Will the new multimedia assignment require the student to
incur any costs?
 Will the students experience a steep learning curve?
 How much time should you allow for the students to
complete the assignment?
 Multimedia assignments can take a long time and may be best
suited for final projects
 Consider a strategy of deliverables
 Groups work best
 How will you evaluate the new assignment?
Transforming Paper-Based
Assignments
 Steps to consider
 Review the current assignment
 Identify the essential knowledge/skills the existing
assignment is designed to instill in the learner
 Match each identified skill or artifact with a compatible
media
 Let’s Try It!
Transformative Digital Media
 Images: Allow for the
expression of more abstract
ideas and relationships
 Audio: Provides added
dimension and brings a level of
relatability and authenticity to
a project
 Video: Brings together images
and audio
 Advantages:
 Increases engagement
 Appeals to different learning
styles
 More student-centered
 Supports technology skill
acquisition
Working with the DLS to Transform
Your Assignment
 Allow time to plan (usually the semester before you
plan to implement)
 Don’t worry about trying to be a technology expert
 Emphasize the critical thinking skills for the
assignment, not the technology tools
