Digging deep into… Spelling! 1st Lesson: Contractions CONTRACTIONS are… words that have been shortened by leaving out some of the letters. An apostrophe is used to show that the letters have been left out (won't - will not), (o'clock - of the clock), (are not – aren’t), (can not – can’t). Other examples? Tips and hints! 1.
