Cut-offs
Roughly two-thirds of programs had increased cut-offs
this year.
Significant movements
• Veterinary Science: increased to OP1 (rank99)
• MBBS Provisional Entry: min UMAT increased to 156.
• B Nursing increased to OP12 (rank 77)
A number of programs had ‘mid-band’ cut-offs,(not all
students on the OP band gaining entry):
• B Physiotherapy OP2 (rank 98)
• B Laws OP3 (rank 97)
• B Occupational Therapy OP 6 (rank 91)

• Discontinued programs
- B Business (Ipswich): 2010 was last intake
- B Human Services (will move to St Lucia campus from 2011)
• Prerequisite changes:
- B Business Management : now has prerequisite of Maths A, B or C
- B Agribusiness: Maths A, B or C prerequisite removed

What was new for 2009/2010
• Phase 2 roll-out of distinct QTAC codes for remaining dual degrees, including
MBBS duals
• Undergraduate Diplomas
UQ students are now able to undertake an undergraduate diploma in music, language
or global issues concurrently with their bachelor studies
- May be undertaken over an accelerated period or spread across the duration of the
bachelors degree
- Internal application
• Credit for TAFE study
Formal articulation agreement with TAFE Qld
- Applies to students who:
Have completed an AQF Diploma or Advanced Diploma within last 5 years; and
Are enrolling in UQ program in same or relevant area

• International Baccalaureate grades
UQ now accepts grades of 3 in Higher Level (HL) subjects to meet prerequisites and
for the Bonus Ranks scheme. (For Standard Level (SL) subjects a minimum grade of
4 remains.)

Recent Developments/Initiatives
Scholarships
• UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships –valued at $12,000 a year for up to
5 years, awarded automatically to all applicants who achieve at the very
top of the OP1/equivalent band
• UQ Excellence Scholarships – valued at $6,000 a year for up to 4
years – for OP1/equivalent students only
• UQ Merit scholarships – valued at $6,000 for first year of study, for
OP1-3 students only
• The UQ Excellence and UQ Merit are based on significant leadership
and/or community service achievements as well.
• In 2011 the Academic Scholarship program will be opened to
International students who have completed Years 11-12 in Australia.
•The Wotif Scholarship aims to provide financial support to students
who demonstrate that their studies will have benefits for them
professionally and for the Australian community. The 'Wotif''
scholarships are valued at $6,000 per year for up to four years.

Recent Developments/Initiatives
Global Change Institute
A major new international research institute that will address the
problems of a rapidly changing world and develop innovative
solutions was launched in 2010. It will focus on a world where the
biggest challenges of the future are interconnected and of a global
scale.
Office of Undergraduate Education
The office of Undergraduate Education has introduced a UQ
Student Travel Grant which may be used to subsidise the cost of
your travel expenses if you want to engage in an activity related to
your study.
Herston Campus
Herston officially became a campus in 2010. The University
operates within the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Royal Children's
Hospital, Royal Women's Hospital and Queensland Radium
Institute.

Recent Developments/Initiatives
Gatton Campus
The new Vet School facilities include the Veterinary Medical Centre,
Veterinary Teaching Laboratories, Clinical Studies Centre and the
Veterinary Science Building. In addition, a number of other facilities on the
Gatton campus including the library, laboratories and lecture halls have
been upgraded.
The official opening of the School of Veterinary Science is expected to
occur in June, 2010.
Ranking
The University of Queensland has been named one of the top 50
universities in the world for the fifth year running in the UK's Times Higher
Education Supplement World University Rankings for 2009. UQ is the
only Queensland university, and one of only a handful of Australian
universities appearing in the top 50. UQ ranked 41st.
