WYD MADRID 2011
WYD MADRID 2011 - OVERVIEW
General
•
Expecting 2 million to attend the weekend programme
•
The Organising Committee is confident that the transport system will not fail,
partly due to the August exodus in Summer where most businesses close
down and schools / uni's do not resume until first week of September.
•
Too early to know if any ratios are planned for number of pilgrims to showers
and toilets at the schools. They appear to accept that supplementary porta-showers and toilets will be a necessary requirement at some schools,
budget permitting. Showers will be available in time shifts and likely to be
very basic.
WYD MADRID 2011 - OVERVIEW
General
•
The allocation of language groupings (for Catechesis etc) around the city
will be greatly dictated by the number of volunteers who speak that
language i.e. They will choose English speaking regions / suburbs based on
whether a higher proportion of English speaking volunteers reside in that
region etc.
•
Madrid will not get dark until after 10pm in Summer. They are planning the
night sessions to begin at 9pm on most evenings! E.g. The Way of the Cross is
currently set down for 9pm! Days will therefore be quite long.
•
Pilgrim walk will be from 3 to 10 km depending on the route allocated.
(N.B. Cuatro Vientos is 10 km south of the city).
WYD MADRID 2011 - OVERVIEW
Registration
•
WYD Registration likely to open about June 2010 in its first phase (i.e.
registering group name and estimated numbers). A second, more detailed
phase to follow in later 2010. (Not so relevant to Aust / NZ groups as Harvest
handles this aspect on their behalf)
•
Simple breakfast is provided at the School accommodation. Hot lunch will
be served and then cold dinner will be handed to pilgrims at lunch venue
to take with them in their backpacks.
WYD MADRID 2011 – DAYS IN THE DIOCESE
DID Overview
•
DID starts Thursday 11th August / Finishes Monday 15th August
•
'Pairing' with preferred Diocese would seem the best way to secure your
group's DID lodgings (Harvest has the listing of co-ordinators for each
Spanish diocese).
•
There is likely to be a Commissioning Mass on the Monday from each DID
central location - Feast of the Assumption (Will depend on time/location as
to whether it is suitable for our groups to attend)
•
DID Regions are likely to be spread over many distant Villages within that
region and not just all in one main city of that diocese. By pairing with
diocesan organisers early, groups can do all possible to avoid parishes
located well away from the main city of that diocese.
