Job Description
This is a full time, permanent position based out of Everest Canadian Resources Corp.’s SAGD
Facility. This is a site based position on a 14/14 rotation.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will report to the Chief Power Engineer.

Ongoing performance improvement including job progression, site-specific training and
process training;
Troubleshoot process problems and identify opportunities for improvement and optimization;
Monitor and control plant and field processing conditions utilizing DCS/SCADA control
systems;
Maintain superior housekeeping standards throughout the plant process and control room
areas;
Responsible for minor maintenance and the coordination of other maintenance activities;
Understand and perform safety responsibilities such as hazard identification, equipment
lock-out and emergency response;
Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulatory requirements. Responsible for
corrective action if required;
Ensure effective communication with Operations, Maintenance and Management;
Maintain proper documentation including operator log, maintenance records, safety and
environment reports;
Perform laboratory analysis and interpretive tasks including: amine testing and product
testing;
Populate and distribute Operations Daily Report;
Ensure chemical and lab supply inventories are maintained and orders are placed as
required;
Chemical management and optimization of all areas of the facility;
Participate in MOC and risk review activities on site;
Direct Operators and distribute workload during CSU activities;
Accountable to provide direction regarding the defined operational strategies, including
setting operational objectives, stimulating focus on operational costs, stewarding to operational costs,
providing technical troubleshooting, analysis and optimization and ensuring continual emphasis on
optimization;
Coordinate bitumen treating, blending and the movement and disposition of off spec oil,
sales oil and management of diluent tank inventories;
Set and ensure accountability for unit key performance indicators;
Engage area chemical vendors and other third party suppliers;
Interact with other groups in support of operational requirements such as DCS, Safety,
Maintenance etc., and communicate information to the Operations team; and
Other duties as required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILL SET:
Second Class Steam Certification;
2-3 years operational experience with distributed control systems;
Strong team player with the ability to work independently;
Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and Access would be an asset;
Valid Class 5 driver’s license; and
Must be legally permitted to work in Canada.

Chairperson of meetings which includes preparing agendas, chairing meetings and ensuring

Demonstrated project organizational skills including planning and organizing a project from
start to completion, as well as organizing daily and long-term Company related activities; and
Knowledge of the Accounting cost centers and AFE coding, including the paper flow of an
invoice.
Safety Skills
Demonstrated a commitment to the Company’s safety policies. This includes knowing the
procedures required and ensuring the following operations activities are completed and documented
on a regular basis:
Weekly safety checklists;
Ensuring incident and environmental reports are completed as required;
contractor and new employee orientations; and
Pre-job safety meetings.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Emergency Response Plan including identifying resident
locations by LSD, use of Resident PC program etc.;
Knowledgeable of the WCB requirements in the event of an injury requiring medical aid; and
Involved in EH&S safety inspections including ensuring all required work requests are
submitted and follow-up completed to ensure priority issues are dealt with immediately.
Environmental Skills

Knowledge of the waste management system and completing a waste manifest;
Knowledge of the Company’s plant licenses and the consequences of any violations;
Demonstrate when and how to complete permit violation reports to Alberta Environment;
Demonstrate how to correctly complete an Environmental Occurrence/Incident report; and
Demonstrate required steps when there is a spill and how to complete a spill report.
Employee Training Skills

Demonstrate the ability to train other Operators including directing new Operators through
unit training and Unit Operators through control room training.
Production and Government Reporting
•

Understand the basic functions required in production accounting;
Describe how all the required information is gathered and reported;
Describe the Everest SAGD Plant production specifications and limits; and
Ability to explain in detail the Daily Production Report and how the information is gathered
and competently input the daily PI files and fluid movement tickets.
Technical Skills
•

Understand and describe the basic function and operation of the DCS;
Draw a simple block diagram of how the above items are interfaced with each other;
Understand and describe how control loops work and the basic functions of “tuning” a control
loop;

Describe the steps that MUST be taken when working on plant instrumentation or electrical
equipment to prevent unnecessary shutdowns or problems; and
Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot a process problem. This includes providing
documentation and showing how a specific problem is identified and resolved. There must be a
demonstrated understanding of the importance of determining the root cause versus the symptoms
of a problem.
