PRINCIPLES OF TRAINING
1. Jenny has decided to take her cycling more seriously and is planning a training
programme to improve her performance. As part of her training she goes to the
gym.
a. Which principle of cardiovascular machine would be most appropriate for her to
use? Please highlight your answer.
Rowing machines
Treadmill
Exercise bike
b. Which principle of training does this relate to?
The principle of training that this relate to is “Specificity” because as
seen in the scenario, Jenny wants a skill to be improved and therefore has
to train for it.
2. You are planning a training to lose weight and tone your abdominal region. Explain
how the following principles might affect your programme? Answer in paragraph
form.
a. Specificity
According to the specificity of training concept, the way the body
reacts to physical exercise is highly specific to the activity itself. In this
instance, as someone who performs abdominal exercises, I may anticipate
that my abdominal structure will improve and become more toned.
b. Progressive overload
I can keep my muscles engaged and grow stronger by switching up
or advancing my workouts. For instance, throughout the first month of
performing cardio exercises, I would complete 10 repetitions. The
following month, I would perform 12 repetitions of the workout. I would
lose weight as a result of turning the fat into muscles.

3. Explain the FITT principle.
To help participants understand how long and how hard they should
exercise, the FITT principles serve as a prescription for certain exercises.
Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type is the abbreviation for FITT. Exercise in
general and specific exercises can both be included in the FITT.
