7:20am of July 1, 2021, my brother and I went to our local municipality for the voter’s
registration. At first, I thought we were too early, but when we got there, even though the
registration has not started yet, the line outside was too long already. After a few minutes, they
started letting people in and I felt anxious because there are people going home because of their
inappropriate clothing or incomplete documents. Fortunately, the process for me was quick
because I have registered online already, wherein I filled out the forms and printed it. After that I
felt proud and satisfied of myself.
This pandemic has opened my eyes to the reality. It revealed how some government
officials are not worthy of the position they hold. This pandemic didn’t only test the citizens
strength, but also the government’s power to respond to it efficiently. However, they failed to do
it because of prioritizing some things and projects that don’t directly resolve what we’re facing
right now. As a result, I felt the strong urge to be a part of the community who are willing to stand
up, fight for their rights and vote for competent leaders. A single vote would make a change, it
would make our lives better and it would end sufferings.
By participating to the upcoming elections, as an FEU student, I would be fulfilling its core
values, Fortitude, Excellence and Uprightness. Fortitude, by voting I would reflect how determined
FEU students are in making a change. I would show how my courage in going against the flow
would lead to making each of our lives better. Excellence, voting is one of our duty that we should
fulfill and by voting we are doing the right things by choosing the right leaders. Uprightness, one
of the most important things in voting because if we stray away from honesty and integrity, we
would be wasting our opportunity for a better future.
