Laboratory Exercise No. 3
Introduction
In the field of agriculture, machines play a significant role in helping carry out
different farm activities to lessen man labor. It offers a great help as it makes the work
faster at the same time efficient. Since tractor have been developed farm activities are
done easier in a short period of time unlike man labor. But dealing with machines is a
crucial part as you need to consider different parameters to know whether that machine
is suitable to use on the crop you are dealing as well as the area.
In this activity we are tasked to solve for the field capacity, draft, and size of the
tractor. With this we went to USMARC assisted by Kuya Sam to perform the said
activity.
Objectives
a. Record the time in which the tractor takes to plow the 40 m distance.
b. Measure the depth of the run of the disc plow of every run.
c. Solve for the field capacity, draft, and size of the tractor.
Methodology
1. Measure the area where the tractor will perform.
2. Record the time the tractor takes to finish one run.
3. After it finishes one run, measure the depth of the run of the disc plow on the
ground.
4. Repeat the steps above for 5 trials.

Based on the calculations, the results showed that average depth is 8.3 inches or
0.211 meter, the average width is 9.71 inches or 0.247 meter, and the average speed is
1.13 meters per second or 4.1 kilometers per hour. On the other hand, field capacity is
0.1 hectares per hour then total draft is 135.85 kg and the drawbar power is 1.52
kilowatts or 2.04 hp. Therefore, the PTO calculated is 2.53 kW or 3.4 horsepower
Summary and Conclusion
The power required to pull the implement with an average depth and with are
8.3” and 9,71” respectively is 3.4 hp. The tractor used (Kubota M9000) is very
compatible to the disc plow implement because the PTO of the tractor used is 80 hp or
59 .7 kW. With this it can pull the implement given the power it has.
