Have you ever used the express delivery service? I think I use it at least once a
week.
Not only do I need things urgently, but I even buy fruits by using the
express delivery service.
The express delivery service, which was first launched in 2015, was only about 10
billion won in market size. However, due to the development of the delivery
system, the increase in single-person households and double-income couples, and
non-face-to-face demands due to Corona 19, the market size of express delivery
services increased to 1.5 trillion won in 2020. In other words, it has grown 150
times in five years.
To prove the result of this investigation, we conducted a survey of 142 people and
found that about 90% of them had experience using express delivery services, and
about 42% of them used express delivery services at least 1.5 times a month.
From these results, we could see that express delivery services have penetrated
deep into our daily lives in a busy modern society. Then what are the advantages
of this service that makes many people use?
There are three main advantages that we found.
The first big advantage of express delivery service is that the service can proceed
quickly non-face-to-face! You may think it’s too obvious, but it’s a blessing to
order what you need easily without space constraints and get it less than a day
later. In situations where non face-to-face demands such as Covid 19, this
advantages can stand out more.
The Second advantage is job creation and development of the local economy.
Originally, when companies and factories are built, jobs are increased and the
local economy can be developed. That’s a basic economic common sense. But the
express delivery service companies need more jobs. Because these companies have
to operate logistics centers and do delivery 24hours a day. The three-shift system
which derived from this system and graveyard shift system are not easily
accessible. However these systems make lots of jobs that people can easily access
are created and this job creation can naturally develop of the local economy.
Actually in April 2021, Coupang which is a express delivery company said that it
would boost the local economy and create new jobs by building a logistics center
in Gyeongnam.
The third advantage is the growth of merchants who are far from consumers. The
advent of express delivery services such as Coupang and Market Kurly has
eliminated the limits of distance between distant merchants and consumers. It also
maintains the freshness of the product and prevents the deterioration of the
product. For these reasons, merchants who sold fruits increased their sales more
than 10 times using express delivery services, and merchants who sold sushi
recorded sales more than 30 times higher than before using this service.
You look very surprised! Maybe you never thought there would be so many
advantages to the express delivery service. You look really surprised that I can’t
find in Michael and Craige professors classes. Now, I’m going to look at the side
of the express delivery service that was largely overshadowed by the advantages.

The first drawback is environmental issues. One of the reasons that the express
delivery services are available is they uses 'predicted delivery system'. That's an

disadvantage of delivery service. These are misdelivery, quality defects, omission of
ordered products etc. Lots of these problems occur because people who work in
the express delivery service have to deal with a lot of supplies in a short time. In
addition, even if there occur problems that require product exchange, related
feedback is too slow. In fact even in our survey, 50%of people experienced these
draw backs that we just mentioned. Haven’t you experienced it at least once?
However, despite the existence of these problems, people think that there are more
benefits of the express delivery services, so overall, the perception of the express
delivery services has been very positive.
As a result of checking the percentage of positive and negative sentimental words
related to the express delivery services on SNS surveyed by the Market Economy
Newspaper, the percentage of positive sentimental words accounted for 72.4
percent on Instagram. This confirmed that many people are positively aware of the
the express delivery service. As a result of our own Internet survey, about 94% of
people said they were positive about the express delivery service and 80% said
they were willing to use the express delivery service. In other words, the use of
express delivery services will be increased in the future and the war over the
express delivery services is expected to continue in the future.

be critical of the drawbacks of the express delivery service, and that companies
and consumers should try to fix them together.
For example, the company would be able to provide a more beautiful express
delivery service with a thorough exchange and refund system, and an expanded
and maintained eco-friendly multi-use shipping box system which is introduced in
Coupang Fresh delivery.
Consumers would be able to use a fresher express delivery service if they
recognize that problems are occured due to the nature of the express delivery
service and have the attitude of accepting them generously.
It could be a tough journey. There is no guarantee that it will get better. However,
we need to fix these drawbacks for the environment, for consumers, and for the
express delivery service that everyone is satisfied with. Let me start with my
