Recommended Practices from
API and ISO
• In this breakout session, we will review:
– Various gas-lift specifications and recommended
practices produced by the American Petroleum
Institute (API)
– Various standards produced by the International
Standards Organization (ISO) for gas-lift
equipment, design, and operations
• Those who attend this session will learn the
topics that are addressed by each of the API
and ISO documents, and how to obtain and
use them
Focus of API Recommended
Practices

Discussion
• ISO will (gradually) replace API specs (E.g. 11V1)
• API will continue for recommended practices
• ISO provides various levels for:
– Design validation testing
– Product functional testing
– Quality assurance
• Please use these documents and provide the API
and ISO teams with feedback
Discussion
• Additional Recommended Practices or Standards
– Additional recommended practices and/or standards can be
developed if:
• There is “pull” from Operating and Service/Supply Companies
• There are people willing to work on the documents
• Additional Recommended Practices Being Considered
– Gas-lift automation (partially covered in API RP 11V5)
– Gas-lift design with PPO gas-lift valves (partially covered in API RP
11V9)
– Surface controlled gas-lift valves
– What others are needed?
