Estimating Energy Output A. The formula to calculate BMI is BMI=kg/m2 To calculate someone’s BMI, you will take their weight in kilograms and then divide it by their height squared. My BMI: 77kg/1.6m2 = 30.07 B. My BMI would be considered unfavorable according to the textbook. A normal weight BMI is considered to be from 104 to 140lbs according to the standards. C. The formula to calculate Estimate Energy Requirements is: FNS 370 DAP Project EER= [354-(6.91*age)] + PA*[(9.36*weight) + (726*height)] My EER: [354-(6.91*21)] + 1.27*[(9.36*77) + (726*1.6)] = 2,603kcal per day D. EER= [354-(6.91*31)] + 1.12*[(9.36*81.82) + (726*1.6)] = 2,200kcal per day E. EER= [354-(6.91*46)] + 1*[(9.36*88.64) + (726*1.6)] = 2,028kcal per day F. I think one of the dietary practices that was responsible for my BMI was the lack of fruits and vegetables in my diet. I also think that I consume too many empty calories that give me no nutritional value. Some things I could add to my dietary practices would be more fruits and vegetables throughout the day. I also think I should consume less foods that contain a high amount of fat and carbohydrates. G. According to my estimate energy requirement, I am supposed to be consuming about 2,603kcals per day. I would say that I am already doing a pretty good job of keeping my calorie intake number close to that. I think something that I can work on is making sure my calorie intake stays about the same every day. The estimate energy requirement changes a lot as you get older and gain more weight. An increase in age and weight will cause your estimate energy requirement to lower. In addition, a decrease in activity level will also cause your estimate energy requirement to lower.
