HOW REGULAR VERBS ARE PRONOUNCED????


Last sound in present.
If the sound moves the vocal folds, then the past is pronounced with /d/
Example: To play - last sound is /i/, then the pronunciation of the past is /pleid/

If the last sound of the verb in present doesn’t move the vocal folds, therefore this past is
pronounced with a /t/.
Example: To place - last sound /s/ (doesn’t move vocal folds) then the past is pronounced /pleist/

Finally, when the last sound is /t/ or /d/, we are going to pronounce the past with /id/
Example: To start – last sound /t/, therefore the pronunciation of the past is /started/
To add – last sound /d/, therefore the pronunciation of the past is /adid/
Do not try to find out the pronunciation whispering it or in silence because it changes the quality
of the sound you can make a mistake; you should always do it aloud.
