Reconstruction is a not overall success, but it was the next step for African Americans. laws that were set up
weren’t followed strictly. Still, at least laws were being created to protect African American rights. I mean, they
were now formally known as citizens, and were given the right to vote. Though not a huge leap, it was a major
step. If that doesn’t convince you, think of it this way. Women was able to fight for rights due Reconstruction and
the 14th and 15th amendments. Congress passed the 14th and 15th Amendments, which helped African
Americans to attain full civil rights in the 20th century. Although there were many positives and successes to the
Reconstruction era, there were many negatives associated with giving slaves their freedom. The economy of the
South ransacked because there were now fewer people to work on the plantations. The Klu Klux Klan becomes
more prominent in the South attacking both blacks and whites striving to gain equal rights for people of all color.
At the end of Reconstruction, former slaves still found themselves once again in an inferior position in society
