ELECTRICALPOWERCORD
Standard:
ThepowercordwillbeSOOWorW,oilandwaterresistant600v,90C,ULandCSAapprovedandappliedperNECampacitiesratingsat
thecablesratedtemperatureforintermittent/continuousduty.Thepumpshallbedoubleprotectedwithacompressionfittingand
anepoxypottedareathatsealseachconductoratthepowercordentrytothepump.Thepowercableentryintothecordcap
assemblyshallfirstbemadewithacompressionfitting.Eachindividualleadshallbestrippeddowntobarewireatstaggeredintervals
andeachstrandindividuallyseparated.Thisareaofthecordcapshallthenbefilledwithanepoxycompoundpotting.Thisassembly
willpreventwatercontaminationfromgainingentryevenintheeventofwickingorcapillaryaction.Thepowercordleadsshallbe
connectedtothemotorleadswithaterminalblockorextraheavyconnectors.Thecordcapassemblywhereboltedtothemotor
housingshalleachbesealedwithaNitrileO-ringonabevelededgetoassurepropersealing.Wiringconnectionshallbedonethrough
aterminalblockeliminatingwirenutsoruseofheavydutycrimpconnectors.
OptionalQuickReleasePowerandControlCord:
Thisdesignusesdoubleprotectionwithacompressionfittingandanepoxypottedareathatsealseachconductoratthepowercord
entrytothepump.Thepowercableentryintothecordcapassemblyshallfirstbemadewithacompressionfitting.Eachindividual
leadshallbestrippeddowntobarewireinstalledinasocketandenclosedinanovermolding.Matingpinsshallbeprovidedand
attachedtotheindividualTeflonleadwiresandenclosedinanotherovermoldingwhichwillbeaffixedtothecordcap.Thisareaofthe
cordcapshallthenbefilledwithanepoxycompoundpotting.Thisassemblywillpreventwatercontaminationfromgainingentryeven
intheeventofwickingorcapillaryaction.ThecordcapassemblywhereboltedtothemotorhousingshallbesealedwithaNitrileOringonabevelededgetoassurepropersealing.Strainreliefshallbeintegraltothepowercableandmustbeclampedovermolding
andvulcanizedtotheouterjacketofthecable.Astatorleadsealingglandorterminalboardshallnotbereliedupontoprevent
moisturefromcontaminatingthemotor.ThepowercablewillbedomestictypeSOOW,4-wireratedat90Cbelow30ampsortypeW,
4-wiresratedat90Cabove30amps.ThecontrolcabletypewillbeSOOW,5-wires.Thecablesizewillbebasedonratedhorsepower
ampsandNECampacitiesratingsatthecablesratedtemperatureforintermittent/continuousduty.Boththepowerandcontrol
cableswillcontainagroundingwireofthesamesizeasthecurrentcarryingwire.
MOTOR
ThemotorsshallmeetpremiumefficiencyinaccordancewithIEC60034-30,levelIE3andNEMAMG1[NEMA12.60Enclosedmotor].
MotorratingtestsshallbeconductedinaccordancewithCSAC390-10requirements.Acertificateshallbeavailableuponrequest.The
motorsaresubmergedinnon-toxic,oilfilled,coolrunningdesignprovidingsignificantlyreducedoperatingtemperatures.Pump
designsrequiringasecondarycoolingapparatusshallbedeemedunapprovedandnotequal.Airfilledpumpdesignsshallnotbe
consideredequalorapproved.
Motorwillbeofthesquirrel-cageinductiondesign,NEMAtypeAorBfor3Phase[PerNEMAMG11.19]&NEMA
typeLfor1Phase[PerNEMAMG11.20]
ThecopperstatorwindingsshallbeinsulatedwithmoistureresistantClassHinsulationmaterials,ratedfor180°C
(356°F).[PerNEMAMG11.66]
Theservicefactorshallbe1.3inwetpitserviceand1.0forVFDoperation(asdefinedbyMG1standard).Themotor
shallhaveavoltagetoleranceof+/-10%fromnominal,andaphasetophasevoltageimbalancetoleranceof1%.
Therotorbarsandshortcircuitringsshallbemadeofcastaluminum.

Themotorshallbedesignedforcontinuousduty.Themaximumcontinuoustemperatureofthepumpedliquidshall
be40C(104F),andintermittentlyupto50C(122F).EachofthethreephaseswillhaveaUL/FMapproved
thermostatorthermistor.Thewindingoperatingtemperatureatratedhorsepowerandservicefactorwillbea
maximumof130C@40Cambient.(Maximumof150Cfor320/360frameHPEproduct)
Themotorshallbecapableofhandlingupto15(>=20kW)and20(<20kW)evenlyspacedstartsperhourwithout
overheating.[PerNEMAMG112.54]
ThemotorshallmeettherequirementsofNEMAMG1Part30and31foroperationonPWMtypeVariable
FrequencyDrives.Therotorswillhavehighefficiencylaminatedsteelwithdiecastbarsandshortingrings.The
statorswillhavehighefficiencylaminatedsteel(ifrequiredtomeetpremiumefficiency),withinverterdutyrated,
ClassHmagnetwire&insulationmaterials.EachofthethreephaseswillhaveaUL/FMapprovedthermostator
thermistorsetfor130C+/-5.(150C+/-5for320/360frameHPEproduct)
BEARINGS
Theupperbearingshallbeaheavy-dutyradialsinglerowballbearingwhilethelowerbearingshallbeadoublerowheavy-duty
angularcontactballbearingofthethrustlimitingdesign.Minimumof50,000hoursofB10bearinglifeforradial&thrustbearings
whileoperatingacrossentirehydraulicoperatingrangeofthepump.AnyPumpshavingratedB10lifeonlyattheBEPshallnotbe
consideredequalorapproved.Bearingshallbelubricatedforlifefromthefactoryandwillbeaccomplishedthroughthenon-toxic,low
viscous,dielectricoilintheframe.Pumpdesignsrequiringperiodicscheduledbearingserviceshallnotbeconsideredequalor
approved.Singleroworsleevelowerbearingsshallnotbeacceptable.
SHAFT
Thepumpshaftshallbeanintegral,onepieceunitadequatelydesignedtomeetthemaximumtorquerequiredatanynormalstartup
conditionoroperatingpointinthesystem.Shaftsofcarbonsteel,chromeplatedorspinweldedshaftsshallnotbeconsidered
adequateorequal.Materialofshaftshallbe416stainlesssteelconformingtoASTM8582.
FLUIDEND
TheimpellershallbeASTMClass30CastIronorASTMClass65DuctileIronwithoptionalSSTavailable.Theimpellermountingistobe
aslipfitontoataperedshaftandadrivekey.TheimpellershallbeattachedtotheshaftbyaSSTfastenerandimpellerwasher.The
impelleristobebalancedtoISO1944standard.Impellerdesignsthatrelyonfinsorpinsprotrudingintothesuctionpathtoassistin
thehandlingoffibrousmaterialshallnotbeconsideredequal.Impellersshallbeoftheradialsingleortwovanetypeoravortex
impellerhavingtheabilitytopassawiderangeofsolids.Anyimpellerdesignrequiringmechanicalbypassmechanismlocatedinthe
voluteinordertohandlesolidsshallnotbeconsideredequaloracceptable.
ThevoluteshallbeASTMClass30alsowithoptionalSST.Itwillconsistofacenterlinedischargeonepiecedesign.Thepassagesareto
belargeenoughtopassthesamesolidsizeastheimpeller.ThedischargeandinletflangesshallbeANSIClass125andbeintegrated
intothevolutecase.Thewearringsshallbereplaceableradialwearringsconstructedof85-5-5-5bronzethatcomestandardinthe
volutecasewithoptionalSSTavailablein304,316or410.
SEALS
Eachpumpmustbeequippedwithaswitchablesealdesignallowingfortheuseofeithertandemmechanicalsealsoracartridgedual
sealdesign(on210frameHPEproduct)withoutvoidingtheagencyratingofthepump.Pumpsutilizingonesealtechnologyshallnot
beconsideredequalorapproved.Inthestandardtandemmechanicalsealconfigurationthelowersealshallbeofthetype2design
andconstructedofCarbon/SiliconCarbideandbereplaceablewithoutdisassemblyofthesealchamberandwithouttheuseofspecial
tools.Theuppersealshallofthetype2100designandconstructedofCarbon/SiliconCarbide.Eachsealwillnotrequireroutine
maintenanceoradjustment.Foreaseofmaintenanceboththeloweranduppersealsshallbelocallyavailableandofastandard
design.ForeaseofservicethepumpsshallbeavailablewithadropincartridgesealconstructedofSiliconCarbide/Carbon.The

cartridgesealdesignshallfitintothesealchamberwithaswitchablesealplateallowingforretrofitinthefield.Unitsequippedwith
opposingmechanicalsealsshallnotbeacceptable.Alllowersealsshallbeoptionallyavailableintungstencarbideconstruction.
SHAFTGROUNDINGRING
Thepumpshallbecapableofbeingequippedwithanoptionalshaftgroundingring.Thisshaftcurrentmitigationtechnologyuses
proprietaryconductivefilamentstoprotectbearingsfromstrayshaftcurrentsbyprovidingalowimpedancepathtoground,drawing
thecurrentssafelyawayfromthebearings.Pumpsnotutilizingacurrentdivertertechnologyshallnotbeconsideredequalor
acceptable.
EQUIPMENTMONITORING
Theintegrityofthemechanicalsealsystemshallbecontinuouslymonitoredduringpumpoperationandstandbytime.Twoelectrical
probesshallbeprovidedinasensingchamberpositionedbetweentheprimaryandsecondarymechanicalsealfordetectingthe
presenceofwatercontaminationwithinthechamber.Thesensingchambershallbefittedwithenvironmentallysafenontoxicoil.A
solidstaterelaymountedinthepumpcontrolpanelorinaseparateenclosureshallsendalowvoltage,lowamperagesignaltothe
probe,continuouslymonitoringtheconductivityoftheliquidinthesensingchamber.Ifsufficientwaterentersthesensingchamber
throughtheprimarymechanicalseal,theprobeshallsensetheincreaseinconductivityandsignalthesolidstaterelayinthecontrol
panel.Therelayshallthenenergizeawarninglightonthecontrolpanel,oroptionally,causethepumptoshutdown.Thissystemshall
provideanearlywarningofmechanicalsealleakage,therebypreventingdamagetothesubmersiblepumpandallowingscheduled
ratherthanemergencymaintenance.Systemsutilizingfloatswitchesoranyothermonitoringdeviceslocatedinthestatorhousing
ratherthaninasensingchamberbetweenthemechanicalsealsarenotconsideredtobeearlywarningsystem,andshallnotbe
consideredequal. SERVICEABILITY
Thecompleterotatingassemblyshallbecapableofbeingremovedfromthevolutewithoutdisturbingthesuctionpiping,discharge
piping,andvolute.Themotorhousing,sealhousingwithsealplateandimpellerstillattachedtotheshaftshallbecapableofbeing
liftedoutofthevolutecasefromthetopasoneassembly.Foreaseofrepair,themotorstatorshallbesecurelyheldinplacebyanend
ringsoitcanbeeasilyremovedwithouttheuseofheatorapress.Nospecialtoolsshallberequiredforpumpandmotordisassembly.
Statorsheldinplacebyheatshrinkfitshallnotbeacceptable.
TESTING
Allpumpsshallbebuiltinadedicateddomesticfactorywithfiftyyearsofcontinuousoperation.Allpumpsshallbevisuallyinspected
toconfirmthatitisbuiltinaccordancewiththespecificationastoHP,voltage,phaseandhertz.Themotorsealandhousingchambers
shallbemeggeredforinfinitytotestformoisturecontentorinsulationdefects.Themotorhousingwillbefilledwithdielectricoiland
shallbeallowedtorundrytocheckforproperrotation.Dischargepipingshallbeattached,thepumpsubmergedinwater,andamp
readingsshallbetakenoneachphasetoverifybalancedstatorwindings.Thepumpshallberemovedfromthewater,meggeredagain,
anddried.Volutescanreceivehydrostatictestingtoensurehighqualitycastingsarebeingprovided.Allpumpsshallreceivestandard
HydraulicInstitute(HI)non-witnessedtestingatathird-partyagency-certifiedtestlab.Pumpmotorscanbetestedonafactory
dynamometercapableofsimultaneouslymeasuringtorqueandrotationalspeed.Testingconductedoffsiteshallnotbeconsidered
equalorapproved.
PAINT
Thepumpshallbepaintedwithwaterbornehybridacrylic/alkydpaint.Thiscustomengineered,quickdry,lowVOCpaintshallprovide
superiorlevelsofcorrosionandchemicalprotection.Optionalcoatingsareavailablethroughthefactoryofchlorinatedrubber,coaltar
epoxyandpolyamideepoxy.
