KLM destination focus: Fukuoka
Earlier this year, KLM became the first airline to offer
direct flights between Fukuoka, Japan and Europe,
bringing the total amount of flights offered by Air
France and KLM to 40 weekly flights from across the
UK and Ireland. Fukuoka is not only the economic
centre of the Kyushu region and the fourth largest
Japanese passenger market to Europe but it is also a
tourist destination with interesting cultural and
historical highlights such as Japan's first Zen temple,
Momochi Seaside Park and the famous Yatai street
food stalls. KLM offers three flights each week from
its hub in Amsterdam to Fukuoka. To book tickets

Interview with Vincent Kas,
Commercial Director UK &
Ireland at Air France and KLM
What was your last flight?
I flew on AFKL's joint venture partner China Southern
on Monday 27th May from London Heathrow to
Guangzhou. A great flight, departing just before
midnight, with a very good business class product
offering a full nights sleep. Besides a connection to
the ever growing city of Guangzhou, this China
Southern flight offers connections through to China,
Australia and New Zealand.
If one of your policy wishes could be granted what would you ask the Government to change in
aviation?
In a price sensative market as the UK, tax is not
helping growth of the aviation industry, we would
therefore request that the government remove APD.
KLM has led on the introduction of biofuels. Is
the move to more sustainable fuel sources driven
by consumer demand or by a need from within
the business?
KLM is consistently demonstrating its leading role in
developing sustainable biofuel. For eight years in a
row, KLM, together with Air France, has been sector
leader on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. We
are combining new and existing technology,
processes and efficiency initiatives to achieve this.
Correction from previous bulletin: Air France and KLM have increased connectivity from Manchester Airport
with 42 KLM flights every week and 45 flights with Air France
