 Student Expectations and Commitments
Learning Technology Plan
This document summarizes the commitments SVVSD will honor to ensure the highest quality learning
opportunities with technology and outlines expectations for you, the student.
The equipment referenced in this document is currently an iPad mini, a case, and a charger. These items are the
property of the SVVSD and are on loan to you during the school year as long as you meet these expectations.
Your school may set consequences for failure to follow these terms, including the loss of this privilege.
Student Expectations:
1. Ownership:
If you transfer to another school or leave the district, you are expected to return the iPad
and charger in good condition because the equipment belongs to SVVSD, it does not belong to you.
2. Protective Case:
You are expected to keep your iPad in the provided case at all times. See a teacher if
you need help cleaning your iPad.
3. Privacy:
Because this iPad belongs to SVVSD, your school has the right to review the content at any time
per Board Policy (
http://bit.ly/PolicyJ
).
4. Loss:
If you lose your device, you are expected to let your school know immediately and to provide
information to help recover it if possible.
5. Repair and Replacement Costs:
You and your family are responsible for the care of your device and
accessories. If they are broken or lost, a replacement device will be issued once restitution has been made
as outlined in Board Policy JQ-R. You may purchase optional insurance to offset some of these costs.
6. Policies and Rules:
You are expected to abide by the SVVSD Responsible Use Policy (JS
http://bit.ly/PolicyJ
) and any rules set by your school, teacher, or parent while using the iPad.
7. Sharing and Respecting Other’s Privacy:
You should respect the privacy of others and not record,
photograph, or share personal information of others unless you have their permission.
8. Restrictions:
You are expected to abide by the restrictions placed on your iPad and not attempt to
jailbreak or bypass any limits set by the district, your school, or your family.
9. Content:
You are expected to use good judgment in deciding what to load onto your device. Remember,
your iPad is a learning tool and you may be asked to remove content that is not related to learning.
SVVSD Commitments:
1. District Resources:
SVVSD will provide a copy of all apps and content you are required to have on your
iPad at no cost to you.
2. Cables:
SVVSD will provide you with a new USB to Lightning cable upon enrollment and when you move
between Middle and High School. If you lose or damage this cable, you are responsible for replacing it.
3. Damaged Devices:
If you opt into the Insurance program and accidentally damage your iPad, SVVSD
will provide a replacement to you as quickly as possible at no charge for a first incident. If you choose not
to opt into the Insurance program, SVVSD will communicate a repair cost to you and provide a
replacement after restitution is made. A loaner may be provided at the discretion of your school.
4. Support:
SVVSD will provide you with resources and help through the district’s website and your
school’s designated support person.
5. Internet Filter:
SVVSD filters inappropriate Internet content while you are at school but DOES NOT
filter Internet content when you are away from the school network. Version 2.0: March 27, 2015
