Kit
Overview
The U3000A electronic instrumentation training kit
provides a quick approach in instrumentation teaching and
learning on Agilent’s instruments.
- Interactive hands-on learning
- Works with industrial standard instruments
- Comes with assessments to gauge students’ progress
A tool to accelerate your student basic test instruments
learning.
Key features:
• Trainer board with selectable 8 modes of operation
Teaching Modules
Power supply teaching module contents
- Power supply design overview
- Advantages and disadvantages of linear power supplies
and switching power supplies
- Operating principle of DC-DC converters
- Methods of power supply protection
- Basic principle of linear power supply — operating
modes, unwanted signal, unregulated state, remote
programming
- Practical tips to optimize power supply capability for
different applications
Mode 1: Temperature monitoring using temperature sensors
Power supply and the trainer board
Mode 2: Temperature monitoring using temperature sensor and
potentiometer
To perform the trainer board operation for MODE 3 to
MODE 8, two regulated voltage supplies are required for
the D/A converter. It requires a -15V voltage supply at VEE
and +10V voltage supply at output reference VREF. Agilent
E3631A triple-output power supply is the recommended
source for these DAC operations.
Mode 3: Measuring incremental counter signal
Mode 4: Measuring triangular wave
Mode 5: Measuring square wave
Mode 6: Measuring irregular pulse wave
Mode 7: Measuring sinusoidal wave
Mode 8: Performing digital noise filtering
•
Comes with teaching materials and lab exercises for power
supply, digital multimeter, function generator and oscilloscope
Digital multimeter teaching module contents
- Basic functions of digital multimeter
- Operation principles of the basic functions
- Measurement errors overview
- Advanced functions that simplify common measurement
tasks
- Circuit fault finding with digital multimeter
Digital multimeter and the trainer board
With the 34405A digital multimeter, you will learn voltage,
current, resistance, capacitance, frequency and diode
measurement through the trainer board and the lab
exercises. The trainer board not only simulates various
signals for voltage and current measurements and analysis,
it also provides many built-in static components for
interactive learning experience with the DMM.
Oscilloscope teaching module contents
- Basic functions of digital oscilloscope
- Types of oscilloscope
- Digital oscilloscope parameters overview
- Measurements making with digital oscilloscope
- Tips for selecting your ideal digital oscilloscope
Oscilloscope and the trainer board
By using the Agilent 3000 series economy oscilloscope,
you will learn how to measure DC voltage, square waves
from 555 timer, sawtooth waveforms, irregular pulse
waves, triangular waves and sinusoidal waves from D/A
converter. You will also learn the FFT function and digital
filtering techniques with the 3000 series oscilloscope.
Function generator teaching module contents
- Operating principles of function generator
- Comparison of function generator and arbitrary waveform
generator
- Function generator design and operating principles
- Applications of function generator

Function generator and the trainer board
The trainer board has an on-board timer and a crystal
oscillator. The lab exercises will walk you through with the
step-by-step instructions on how to use the 33220A
function generator to generate 100kHz square wave and
microcontroller’s clock signal to replace those components.
