TECHNICAL VISITS Friday, the 9th of September 2016 Tour 1 - Manufacturers of Motion ..................................................................................................(max. 50 participants) Baden-Württemberg, the south-western state of Germany, is well-known for automation and transportation industry. On this tour, we will first visit SEW-Eurodrive in Bruchsal, a famous manufacturer of electrical machines and drive solutions, where SEW’s electronics assembly will be presented. In the afternoon, we will explore the Daimler plant in Rastatt, where Mercedes cars are built. Tour 2 - Facets of the KIT ..................................................................................................................(max. 50 participants) The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is the fusion of the former University of Karlsruhe and the Karlsruhe Research Center. This unique institution offers a wide range of state-of-the-art research in many disciplines. On this tour, we will visit the three sites of the KIT and join interesting and fascinating presentations and experiments. Tour 3 - Black Forest - Nature and Technology .............................................................................(max. 30 participants) This tour will first guide us to Forbach, where we will visit a pumped-storage power plant operated by EnBW. On the Schwarzenbach dam, we will gain deep insights into the dam itself. After lunch at an authentic Black Forest restaurant, a short hike (3 km, 150 meters in height) will lead us to the Hornisgrinde tower, where a magnificent view over the northern Black Forest and the Rhine valley can be enjoyed. EXTRA NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES 1 THE WELCOME RECEPTION Date: Tuesday, September 6th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. th It will be held on Tuesday, 6 September from 19:00 to 20:00 in the Conference Centre. Registration: https://it.cborg.info/EPE2016/ 2 THE GALA DINNER Date: Wednesday, September 7th at 6:00 p.m. The gala dinner will take place at the Schwetzingen Palace (Schloss Schwetzingen), on Wednesday, September 7th at 6:00 p.m. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, the dinner can be enjoyed in a royal atmosphere. The history of Schwetzingen Palace reaches back to the 14th century. Between 1697 and 1752, after several reconstructions and damage taken during wartime, the former fortress was rebuilt into its current form. From this time it served as summer residence for several Electors of the Palatinate (Kurfürst von der Pfalz). From the second half of the 18th century on, the creation of the famous palace gardens started and resulted in a masterpiece of rare beauty and rich variety. Today, over 100 sculptures are preserved all around the fascinating landscape. Many cultural styles influenced the composition of the gardens. A small Greek temple can be found as well as a Turkish garden with a mosque and a bath house modeled on an Italian villa.
