On Wednesday October 31, 2007, at 1531 MST, EPE experienced loss of
generation which precipitated a series of events that threatened the
remaining generating resources at the Newman generating plant. At this
time, in an effort to prevent further system decay and to restore EPE’s
system to pre-disturbance status, EPE Reliability specifically directed EPE
Marketing, EPE’s load serving entity, to purchase energy from the
Southwest Power Pool at the Eddy County HVDC tie.
