Educational Objectives
Coupled with the experience in a research project, students
will be equipped to adapt to the challenging demands in the
power industries. After the course students are qualified for
high level research work, principal engineering practice and
engineering management positions. This underlines the actual
and future industrial needs for highly qualified power engineers for various positions.
As a second highlight, students will get trained in self-reliant
engineering work and innovation findings based on the interdisciplinary education profile.
This does not only comprise major power and control engineering disciplines but also the economic aspect in both
directions, most effective research activities and commercial
application of the results in the light of the work as an entrepreneur.
In a third dimension the education will focus on teaching
students to perfect their knowledge in soft-skills, system thinking, team supervision, project management and work-life
balance issues.

Master (MSc) Electrical Power and Contral Engineering
Objective
The MSc-programme in Electrical Power and Control Engineering brings the students up to date with the hot topics in Power and Control Engineering.
By active integration into current research projects the students will receive cutting edge of knowledge and experience
in import research areas like:
• Information and communication technologies in power
systems (smart grids),
• Design, operation and system integration of renewable energy source (virtual power plants),
• Operation and system integration of electric vehicles and
other controllable loads (mobile storages, virtual storages,
demand side management).
The Master Programme is designed by professors with high
level industrial experience to give students an excellent education in Electrical Power Engineering. A master degree from
TU Ilmenau will enable students to work at an advanced level
in industrial production as well as in research, development
and education.
This programme is designed for Engineering graduates (BSc
or equivalent), practicing engineers, power system designers,
control engineers and industry planners who would like to
seek an in-depth understanding of power electronics and
drives, power quality, power system analysis, planning and
operation, complex and advanced systems control as well as
power economics and energy markets.
