Studentswhodecidetotakealeaveofabsencefromtheiracademicprogrammustdiscusstheir
decisionwiththeirfacultyadvisorandputtheirintentionsinwritingtotheDepartmentChair.
Intheletter,thestudentshouldoutlinethepurposeoftheleaveofabsence,theapproximatetime
needed,andananticipatedsemestertoreturn.Whenthestudentplanstoreturntotheacademic
program,she/hemustcontactthedepartmentchairpersontosetupameetingtodiscussre‐entering
theprogramandthestudent’snewacademicplan.Intheeventthatastudenttakesleavethatexceeds
oneyear(fromthesemesterofadmission),she/hemustreapplyforadmissiontothedepartment.
