approach combines the view on material, functional elements, vehicles, drivers, traffic,
infrastructure, environment and society. Numerous research facilities have been created
during the last 5 years at the KIT Campus East with testing and research laboratories for
components (combustion engines, electric motors, power electronics, batteries), vehicles

TheEPEConference
Power Electronics is very present in Europe, with advanced research, successful industrial
companies and many academic laboratories in different countries. Since 1985, the EPE
Conference has grown to become the largest in its field, regularly attracting the foremost
technical contributors from industry and research centres worldwide. In 2011, EPE
Association joined the IEEE-PELS society for organizing the EPE-ECCE Europe Congress
cooperatively.

EPE 2016 will show how electric drive and generator technology can deliver a substantial
contribution to the energy transition: From the production of renewable, climate-neutral
electric energy (wind and solar power) to its distribution (HVDC networks) and the use of
energy-efficientdrives.

Advanced packaging technologies lead to a new level of power integration of motors and
electronics.
AmajorgoalofEPE2016istoenablethepresentationanddiscussionofdevelopmentsin
the field of Power Electronics, with attendees coming from all over the world. A
characteristic trend from previous EPE ECCE Europe conferences has been an increasingly
large industrial participation, which allows enhanced exchanges between academics and
peoplefromindustry.

EPE2016willtakeplaceatthecongresscenter/townhall(Stadthalle)Karlsruhe,whichisin
walking distance from the city center and from the main station (Hauptbahnhof). It has
excellent connections to public transportation and major highways (A5, A8). Several major
hotelsandalargeundergroundpubliccarparkingspacearelocatednearby.
The town hall offers a large plenary room that can easily accommodate more than 1000
attendees plus five more rooms for the breakout sessions with space for 200+ attendees
each.InternetaccessbyWLANwillbeavailableforallregisteredparticipantsinthewhole
