CONNECTING  Series – Cells can be combined in series strings to achieve higher operating voltages by connecting the positive terminal of one cell to the negative terminal of the next cells.  Parallel – Cells can be combined together in parallel strings to achieve higher operating capacities by connecting both positive and negative terminals of adjacent cells to each other.  CAUTION – When connecting cells in parallel, be sure to always connect positive terminals to positive terminals and negative terminals to negative terminals. Never connect positive terminals to negative terminals in a loop as this will result in a short circuit. INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS Component Maintenance The battery cell that comprises the MD3 is not a user replaceable item. Therefore, data is not available from the manufacturer to conduct field repairs in the case of a faulty or expired product. In the event that the unit exhibits failure, insufficient capacity, or expired life, contact Mid‐Continent Instruments for exchange or replacement. Installation Limitations The conditions and tests for TSO approval of this article are minimum performance standards. Those installing this article, on or in a specific type or class of aircraft or equipment, must determine that the aircraft or equipment installation conditions are within the TSO standards. TSO articles must have separate approval for installation in an aircraft or equipment. The article may be installed only according to 14 CFR Part 43 or other applicable airworthiness requirements. Storage Although the chemistry of the cell used for the MD3 exhibits a relatively low self‐discharge rate, like all batteries, it will eventually self‐discharge if left unused for long periods. In addition, self‐discharge rates are directly related to the storage temperature. Higher storage temperatures will result in faster self‐discharge rates. Exposure to higher storage temperatures for sustained periods of time is possible, but may increase the self‐discharge rate or result in some loss of capacity. If left unused for more than 6 months, the cell should be recharged prior to use following guidelines above. Disposal NOTE: All lithium ion batteries are classified by the federal government as non‐hazardous waste and are safe for disposal in the normal municipal waste stream. However, these batteries do contain recyclable materials and recycling options available in your local area should be considered when disposing of this product. Do not incinerate. Rev.
