9. TAG 176 MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION AND RESPONSIBILTIES
The U.S. TAG to ISO/TC 176 on Quality Management and Quality Assurance is an active working body, and
membership is not just recognition or an honor. As a TAG member, your active involvement in TAG affairs is expected
and participation will be monitored per the ANSI Procedures for U.S. Participation in the International Standards Activities
of the ISO. Among these activities are:
9a. SUBCOMMITTEES: Responsibilities include active participation in subcommittee, in a special assignment, or as a
TAG officer. Subcommittees provide advice and guidance concerning U.S. positions on the work of the ISO/TC 176.
Participation includes reviewing submitted documents or proposals and contributing to new U.S. proposals and working
documents. Subcommittees are active until the assigned document becomes a published standard. It is expected that
members stay abreast of new developments and participate in new task groups as they are created.
9b. MEETINGS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: There are two domestic TAG meetings annually. Participating members (or
designated alternates) are expected to attend 75% of TAG meetings over a two year period. Observer members will
receive all documents circulated to the TAG, but do not vote and are not required to attend meetings.
There is at least one international meeting of the ISO/TC 176 per year. Additional trips may occur depending on the work
of the subcommittees or working groups of ISO/TC 176, and if there is a need for further meetings. Ability to travel
internationally is not required, but helpful and desirable. EXPENSES FOR TRAVEL ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF
THE PARTICIPANTS.
9c. VOTING: Participating members are expected to have a timely return of 80% of all written ballots over a two-year
period. If you do not feel qualified to comment on a particular document, or cannot devote the time necessary for a
thorough review, a vote of “abstain” is expected and not counted against participation.
9d. ANNUAL PARTICIPATION FEE: Membership on the U.S. TAG to ISO/TC 176 is $150 per person annually on a
January-December calendar year basis. This amount is established by the TAG Administrator and approved by the TAG
Chair to cover the administrative costs. The initial membership fee will be applied to the calendar year in which it is
received. New applications with fees due after October 1 will be applied to the following calendar year. Subsequent
invoices for the participation fee will be distributed each November to every member of the TAG for that calendar year.
9E ASC Z1 Committee on Quality Management
Scope: ASQ holds the Secretariat for the ASC Z1 Subcommittee on Quality Management. The Subcommittee’s scope
covers generic standards having application in the field of quality management. The preparation of product or industryspecific standards is not within the scope of this Subcommittee.
Purpose: The purpose of the ASC Z1 Subcommittee on Quality Management is to coordinate, review, serve as a
consensus body, and, when required by the absence of a qualified and willing standards-writing committee, develop and
prepare standards. The Subcommittee also provides advice to other standards-writing bodies when the topic of quality
management and assurance is included and interacts with the appropriate international activities.
