NVACS: Operations and Algebraic Thinking (4.OA) Multiplication, Division with and without remainders, Multi-step Problems Practice for 4th Graders 4.OA.1 Interpret a multiplication equation as a comparison, e.g., interpret 35 = 5 X 7 as a statement that 35 is 5 times as many as 7 as 7 times as many as 5. Represent verbal statements of multiplicative comparisons as multiplication equations. 4.OA.2 Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with symbols for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguish multiplicative comparison from additive comparison. 4.OA.3 Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having while-numbers answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies. 4.OA.4 Find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1-100. Recognize that a whole number is a multiple of a given one-digit number. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is prime or composite. 4.OA.5 Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself. RPDP has searched the web for content quality practice for you to use with the students to implement the NVACS Curriculum. Many of these sites have received grants and or “Race to Top” funding to create the instructional materials. As a requirement for receiving this funding they have to/or want to make their material available for other educators. Because philanthropists and our tax dollars have paid for these practice materials we should consider these valuable and shareable resources. These resources are free and available for use by teachers in the classroom. Please explore what we found! RPDP.net Page 1 NVACS: Operations and Algebraic Thinking (4.OA) Multiplication, Division with and without remainders, Multi-step Problems Practice for 4th Graders This site provides practice in several content areas. Please locate the thinking blocks website based version and select, multiplication and division, addition and subtraction, (to meet the standards 4.OA.3.5) or fractions to practice 4th grade tape diagram (bar models) word problems. Within the site you can select what type of word problem and model you would like to use. http://www.mathplayground.com/thinkingblocks.html Visit this site to create practice sheets to use for all the NVACS Standards. http://www.commoncoresheets.com/ Visit this site to practice 2 step work problems involving all 4 operations. (4.AO.3) http://braingenie.ck12.org/units/1227 Practice balancing a scale to practice and apply the concept of equality in using a visual interactive model. These types of experience build the understanding of algebraic reasoning. (4.OA.3.5) http://www.learner.org/courses/learningmath/algebra/session6/part_c/index.html This site provides practice and feedback for students at their grade level for all content areas. Technology based practice. This is set up as an adaptive reasoning format which is how the SBAC end of the year tests for students will be given. http://www.ixl.com/promo?partner=google&campaign=1037&adGroup=Keywords++Homeschooling&gclid=CKyZl7KqzsECFRZqfgodmicAog RPDP.net Page 2
