Group Research Presentation: The Classic Characters of
Comedia Dell’Arte
Essential Questions: what are the “stock characters” seen in comedy? How does
knowledge of these characters help an actor develop a role and performance?
Task: Groups will research and prepare a 5 to 7-minute presentation to teach the class
about the assigned stock character.
Use the printed sources provided, plus find at least 2 additional online sources. Sources
can be websites, image galleries, or video clips.
Each student is responsible for producing at least one slide, and speaking about it. Do
not just read information off the slide, prepare a speech that expands off the basic
information.
Guidelines:




Powerpoint –include AT LEAST one picture on each slide. Limit writing
titles, captions, and bullet points. NO PARAGRAPHS.
Slide needed for each of the following:
o Cover introduction slide –title, group members’ names
o Character status
o Costume
o Mask
o Movement
o Plot function
o Examples of character –historical and contemporary
o Sources used (MLA format)
Use your best presentation skills- prepare what you will say in advance and
practice along with the slides.
Use notecards to present. Rehearse what you are going to say, don’t read
to us!
