Team Members Ice Breaker
Roles and Norms
Every new team experiences similar stages of development. You may already be familiar with the oft
quoted Forming/Storming/Norming/Performing/Adjourning stages developed by Tuchman. Right now,
you’re at the beginning of your team’s forming stage and probably wondering what’s the best way to
approach these new people in your life. You start by discussing two important topics: How will we
behave towards one another, and, how will we get the job done?
Consider the questions that follow as an opportunity to break the ice. You can pass the document back
and forth using the file exchange tool in your teams personal space. When you are satisfied that you
have reached consensus on the issues that are important to the team, save a clean copy and post it
where the team can have access to it.
