Passage 2E: The Silk Road
The Silk Road, or Silk Routes, was an extensive network of roads across Asia. It
connected eastern and southern Asia with europe and northern Africa? The network of was over
5,000 miles long and was used primarily to transfer goods.Silk was a major product being traded
at this time, witch is how the Silk Road got its name. There were many products traded through
the Silk Road,
however. it linked merchants, pilgrims, missionaries, soldiers, and nomads

The road was mainly created for the chinese silk trade, but satin and other fine
fabrics were also traded. Perfumes, spices medicines, and jewels were sum other products traded
via the Silk Road. The also helped to transfer and spread ideas, tecknoligie, culture, and
diseases. products were often traded from merchant to merchant along the road. Few people
actually the entire road from beginning to end.
The road began in eastern China and split off in many dercshons. The northern route
crossed China and extended all the way the western boundary of the Roman Empire in presentday Italy The southern route also started in China and extended down into India and up into
Pakistan and Afghanistan on the way to the mediterranean. Sea routes were also included in the
Silk Road.
Routes ran through many bodies of, including the Mediterranean Sea, Red
Sea,Persian Gulf, and Indian Ocean,
